Dear NCCU Supporters, Friends, Alumni:

It is with sincere appreciation for my Alma Mater and its uncompromising commitment to service and scholarship that I enter the “Mr. Alumni” contest. The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Alumni Association will formally recognize the contestant that generates the largest amount of contributions for the scholarship fund during the half-time show of the Homecoming game, October 30, 2004. Contributions to this campaign will provide competitive scholarship opportunities for students pursuing academic studies at NCCU. For this purpose, I extend this invaluable opportunity to invest in our leaders of tomorrow, today.

I am the son of Ernestine (Tina) B. Phipps, residing in Albany, Georgia, and the late Paul B. Phipps, Sr., both from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I moved from Albany, Georgia to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina in August 1995, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (concentration in Electronic Media) at dear ole’ NCCU. During my academic matriculation I served as the undergraduate university photographer, photo editor for the award winning Campus Echo and editor of The Eagle yearbook.

Upon graduating in May 1999, I accepted employment with American Airlines where I have worked for the last five years as a Sales and Service Consultant. Supplemental to my employment, I remain engaged in the ongoing efforts to market NCCU as one of the premiere institutions of higher education. Possessing a grounded belief in the mission and motto of my Alma Mater, I respectfully serve as Vice-President of the Durham Alumni Chapter, volunteer in the Office of Alumni Relations and the Annual Fund, and support the loyal initiatives of the Alumni Association, Eagle-Alumni Connection, Pre-Alumni Club, and Orientation and First Year Experience.

I, along with several prospective students seeking a competitive, affordable education, invite you to extend your “giving” to the North Carolina Central University Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. With your financial support, the Alumni Association can continue the tradition of assisting deserving students who aspire to attend NCCU.

I welcome your generous contribution of $100.00 in support of my ongoing initiative to increase funding for alumni scholarships and student aid. Please know, however, that any amount offered will be greatly appreciated. Your tax-deductible contribution should be made payable to the NCCU Foundation and mailed to the address above by October 11, 2004. Please indicate on the check or money order memo line that your contribution supports the “Mr. Alumni Contest – Durham Chapter.”

Thank you for your continued support of NCCU and especially to the scholarship effort. I look forward to hearing from you! You may contact me at alumni4scholars@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,

Paul B. Phipps
