  Schools in an Aging Society . . .
. . . a collection of six interrelated guides that promote education for, with, and about older adults, developed by the
Connecticut Aging Awareness Project, a joint effort of Connecticut’s Department of Education and Department on
Aging, and the Center for Understanding Aging.

1. Strengthening the School-Community Connection shows how schools can be more responsive to their
communities. It describes the Advancing Generations’ Education through Schools (AGES) organizational planning
model. (38 pages; $7.50).

2. Elders as Resources addresses the educational and social needs of younger and older persons. It describes seven
intergenerational educational models and gives practical suggestions for intergenerational programs, interviews, and
discussion groups. (30 pages; $7.50).

3. Guide for Pupil Personnel Specialists provides background information and group activities for counselors,
psychologists, social workers, and classroom teachers. Topics include the changing workplace, grandparents as
parents, elder caregiving, careers in gerontology, and an intergenerational communications workshop. (64 pages; $10)

4. Social Studies Classroom Activities includes 20 lessons that address existing curricular objectives with detailed
lesson plans and handouts on attitudes about aging, historical contexts, cultural diversity, demographics, and political
and economic considerations. (110 pages; $10)

5. Health/Home Economics Classroom Activities provides 21 lessons on attitudes about aging, intergenerational
issues, normal aging, home and community awareness, and healthy lifestyle choices. (104 pages; $10)

6. Language Arts Classroom Activities includes 13 lessons on attitudes about aging, and writing and reading about
aging. It also contains selected readings about older adults. (64 pages; $10)
