All of what you see here is made and sold to us by indigenous producers on their own terms. There are no sweatshops. Producers manage their own conditions and receive their initial unit asking price. Sales mean income for communities that have been ignored and denied basic rights and services by governments claiming to represent them for centuries, and who are only recently beginning to touch the global market place with their extraordinary talents. Ironically, time-honored indigenous artisanry and textiles are among the few industries, along with petroleum, bananas, and flowers, in which Ecuador may be able to compete in today's free-trading world.
If in the end you decide to purchase what you see, you can do so with the peace of mind that your purchase directly benefits some of the most money poor, but culturally and spiritally rich among us.
