UPDATES
Nov. 19, 2003
My dumb computer has been possessed by the annoyance demon and until it can be exorcized this may be the last update for about a week.
Web survey charts Rings' appeal: Frodo and friends: Researchers want to find out just what the appeal of the Lord of the Rings is. "The first two films were enormous international box office successes, yet they pose some interesting questions".
The Official LotR Website new clip is "Capturing a crowd" featuring the recording of the sounds for the Uruk-hai army at Orthanc. The Two Towers Special Extended edition DVD/VHS is out today! go grab a copy!
Orlando to attend ROTK Berlin premiere: According to the report at Morgenpost.de, Liv Tyler, Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee and Howard Shore will attend the Return of the King premiere in Berlin, Germany. The venue is not set yet, I think that's what it says.
TORN has posted scans of Hobbits article from the December issue of Premiere magazine. They've also posted scan of Orlando interview from Australia's Sunday Times.
Orlando Bloom nominated for his supporting role in Ned Kelly: The top film honours at the 45th AFI Awards are expected to be shared by Gettin' Square and Japanese Story. Hollywood glamour boy Heath Ledger is nominated for best actor for his role in Ned Kelly. Ledger's co-star Orlando Bloom is among the high-profile foreign actors nominated for his supporting role in the film.
AOL has an article titled "Ragtag Romeos: Even Hot Guys Have Ugly Days." It describes something terrible they wore with a pic of the offending outfit. '#5 Orlando Bloom Man in Black: British hottie Orlando Bloom's star is on the rise (he'll appear next with Brad Pitt in the upcoming movie Troy), but it seems he still is in need of a stylist. At the London premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean, Bloom sported a buttoned-up blazer, tacky track pants and freaky footwear. Let's not even get started on the hair.' and '#7 Johnny Depp Here's Johnny: Johnny Depp is certainly no conformist: He's forsaken the Hollywood scene for a quiet family life in France. So it's probably natural that Depp (in July) would strut the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival in battered jeans, a bowler hat and dirty work boots.' Personal Note: I thought Orlando's hair was fine, and Johnny probably could've gotten away with his ensemble minus the hat.
Tyler told to tone it down: LIV Tyler has been told by movie bosses she risks missing out on top film roles unless she reduces the size of her figure, IMDB.com reports. But Tyler, who lost weight for her part as Arwen in the "Lord Of The Rings," insists she is happy with her weight and doesn't want to diet. "I've been told that if I lose weight, I'd have more work, but I refuse to submit myself to Hollywood standards. To the rest of the world I am slim, and I like the way I am."

New home-video releases: "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers -- Extended Edition" The perfect refresher course on J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy before catching next month's final chapter, "The Return of the King."
LotR DVD contributed by Sir Ian for a charity auction: The Trust PA charity ball was held on Saturday to raise money for spinal research, in memory of Paul-Andre Blundell, who died after a rugby accident. The annual charity event was held in Cardiff's Coal Exchange. Other auction prizes included a signed Kate Winslet DVD of Titanic, Star Wars goodies signed by Ewan McGregor and a Lord of the Rings DVD and book which Sir Ian McKellen had drawn in.
New Lord Of The Rings 747: Air New Zealand, Airline to Middle-earth, today unveiled its latest The Lord of the Rings-themed aircraft as it steps up its worldwide campaign to harness the tourism influence of the motion picture trilogy. Pic 1 & Pic 2.
Win movie tickets with hobbit feet: Show us your hobbit feet! We're giving away tickets to a preview screening of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and we want to see who's got the most hobbitlike tootsies around.
Weta set to take on King Kong: It'll soon be time for Wellington to farewell the hobbits, but King Kong is coming to the rescue. Wellington special effects shop Weta Digital says it is just about to deliver the final digital effects for The Return of the King, the last film in the Tolkien trilogy produced by New Line Cinema. "For Weta Digital's artists, the making of this trilogy has been an intense work period," says spokeswoman Georgina White. "Everyone is really excited about seeing the finished film. It will be the conclusion of an epic saga." Ms White says Weta Digital has transformed itself into "one of the largest and most sophisticated post-production facilities in the world" during the course of working on The Lord of the Rings.
Capital misses out on Rings spinoffs: Legal issues are preventing Wellington from capitalising on Lord of the Rings mania, city leaders say. Increasing numbers of tourists are flocking to the capital because of the multimillion-dollar movie trilogy but find few commercial spinoffs.
Movies' rein men are dying breed: Billy Burton remembers when horses were the daily business of Hollywood. In the predawn light on a then-dusty Burbank plain, a dozen trailer trucks would pull up to the movie barns every day, loading hundreds of animals for movie and TV productions on the back lots of Universal and Warner Bros. That era passed decades ago, and the heyday of the Hollywood cowboys - Burton's crowd - passed along with it... More such movies are to come, including the historical drama "The Alamo," the toga period epic "Alexander" by director Oliver Stone, another horse-race film, titled "Hidalgo," and "Troy," starring Brad Pitt. Director Ridley Scott is slated to shoot a film about the Crusades, and movies about Zorro and Pancho Villa are being prepared for production. Leading men from Pitt to Colin Farrell to new guys Orlando Bloom and Eric Bana are learning to become skilled riders in the way that was once second nature to Clark Gable, Gary Cooper and Jimmy Stewart.

TV Alert: STAR2 (Starz #2) - Black Hawk Down, 6 am, 2 pm, 10 pm
New Pic of the Week. Last weeks is in Mag Pics, along with three other new pix from the same article.
Who is the hottest hunk?: Vote for Orlando at abcfamily.com as one of the hottest hunks and get him on the show! Premiering 11/22 at 8pm e/p.
At Blockbuster movie rental store in Northern California, they are selling a TTT popcorn tin. Its has a almost mural type design of all the characters. They are selling for $9.99.
A report from a fan at OBMultimedia: Vicki reports: I just watched a movie called 24 Hour Party People (2002). It is set in Manchester, England. At exactly 34 minutes and 50 seconds into the movie -- there's Orlando! He's only on screen for 3 seconds and has no lines. He's supposed to be in a club watching Joy Division perform.(Hmmm, could it be true?).

TV Alert: STAR2 (Starz #2) - Black Hawk Down, 10 pm
Added a picture to Mag Pics of another picture of Orlando with his dog.
Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings in Hollywood spoof: A Hollywood film studio is developing a spoof movie based on the Harry Potter and the Lord of the Ring films. Henry Bates and the Sorcerer's Balls is described as a fantasy parody in the vein of the Scary Movie series. The film has been scripted by David Morgasen, James R Stein and Timothy Stack for MGM. Morgasen told Variety.com: "Our good wizard is Gandolfini, who goes against the evil wizard Enron. "The quest involves Henry Bates, the rightful king of the land of Middlefinger."
RotK part of the Holiday Trimmings: Dec. 17 - "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King": As the evil Sauron (Christopher Lee) wages his final siege, the Fellowship of the Ring and its allies attempt to distract the forces of evil so Frodo (Elijah Wood) can complete his quest in the conclusion of J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy, which features returnees Sean Astin, Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, Liv Tyler and Cate Blanchett under the command of writer-director Peter Jackson.
"The Lord of the Rings" Gift Set: is the Newest Addition to the Barbie Collectibles Pop Culture Line. Based on New Line Cinema's upcoming film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novel, "The Return of the King," Barbie doll and Ken doll portray the romance and drama of Arwen and Aragorn. The characters from the mystical world of Middle-earth are brought to life with exquisite detail in a commemorative Collector Edition gift set to coincide with the third release titled "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" on December 17.
They're back! "They" being the little people who have pretty much shanghaied the past couple of holiday-movie seasons. No, not just elves . . . though this month has already had its share of them. Hobbits, actually. The stars of director Peter Jackson's ambitious, three-part, live-action adaptation of author J.R.R. Tolkein's "Lord of the Rings" epic trilogy. The third and final film, "The Return of the King," is expected to be the movie to beat this holiday season. Not that there won't be challengers competing for that box-office crown.
Empire Awards 2004: Vote online and you could win a pair of tickets to this year's Awards ceremony. The Sony Ericsson Empire Awards are the only UK film awards that are voted for entirely by you - the cinemagoing public. "Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley engage in verbal sparring on a desert island" (PotC) and "The Ride of the Rohirrim" (ROTK) are nominees for Best Scene. You can vote for the other categories as well.
Men in Blouses?: It's been a good year for men in blouses. The puffy white pirate shirt deserves a best supporting ambiguous garment nomination, after what it's done for Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom in the megahit "Pirates of the Caribbean," and what it's about to do for Russell Crowe et al. in "Master and Commander."
Warrior Eric Bana skirts heroic issue: MEL Gibson proved a man in a skirt could be a sex symbol in Braveheart. Now Australia's own Eric Bana has joined Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom in proving the same for Troy. The film isn't due out in Australia until May 27 next year, but as these early images from the film show, director Wolfgang Petersen has spared no expense. Fellow Aussie Rose Byrne also stars in the film, which was shot mostly in Malta after the original shooting location of Morocco was deemed too dangerous. The ancient Greek epic follows the success of Russell Crowe's Gladiator and will precede Baz Luhrmann's Alexander the Great into cinemas.

Not True
Rumour, 7 November 2003: "The Daily Mail (in their Wicked Whispers column) report that 'Ian McKellen infuriated fellow thesp Orlando Bloom at Tuesday night's British Independent Film Awards when he said he'd turned up in the hope of a snog from his fellow Lord of the Rings star. A furious Bloom retorted afterwards: "I'm not gay. I've got a girlfriend." ' This is untrue isn't it?"
Fact: On 5 November at the British Independent Film Awards, the Variety UK Personality of the Year Award was presented to Ian McKellen at Hammersmith Palais by Orlando Bloom. They sat at the same table and caught up on each other's news. Bloom gave a charming speech to which McKellen replied. His self-deprecating remarks began: "I'm not quite sure why I have been honoured in this way but perhaps the organisers realised that I would go anywhere for a free drink and a chance to kiss Orlando!" Much laughter and no complaints from Bloom, who accepted the joke as a compliment. Indeed, next day he called to thank McKellen for inviting him to the Awards and said how much he was looking forward to meeting up again at the world premiere of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King on 1 December in New Zealand.
With less than two months left in the year, we have a much clearer picture of the year's best movies and performances. Whether members of the academy will agree when they announce Oscar nominees on Jan. 27 remains to be seen. [exerpt] Picture - Two sure things: "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' and "Cold Mountain.' No one has seen either movie; presumptions are made purely based on past performance. In the case of "LOTR,' it's the genuine artistry of the first two chapters; for "Cold Mountain,' the genuine artistry of director Anthony Minghella and, more important, the campaign savvy of Miramax.
2004 Palm Springs International Film Festival: Other gala honorees include: New Line Cinema, which produced the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, culminating in "The Return of the King" due out Dec. 17. The cinema will receive a studio award.
Back-to-back Shooting For 'Caribbean' Sequels?: The sequels to this years box office smash Pirates of the Caribbean may get a Matrix-type back-to-back production, according to Variety sources. The concept of back-to-back production has already been tried and tested by the Wachowski brothers for their Matrix sequels, and by Peter Jackson for his Lord of the Rings series. Gore Verbinski is onboard to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 2, with Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott currently writing the script for the project. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are all said to have agreed to do the sequel, which currently has no start date.
Moviefone is offering two links to exclusive clips coming from the Special Extended Edition. There's a shot of Legolas in the "Saying Goodbye" clip. Spoilers ahead!!!
The Official Website new clip is an examination of the "Theme of Rohan." PJ discusses how the theme grabbed hold of him.
The Official website has added new desktop images from The Two Towers Extended Edition, featuring vignettes of Denethor and Boromir, Pippin and Merry, Legolas, and Theoden and Aragorn. Check them out!
Final cut: When news leaked that Peter Jackson would receive $20 million to direct Universal's remake of 1933's "King Kong," it drew gasps within the film industry. It was the first time in history that a director had been paid as much as an A-list star. True, the fee also covered Jackson's duties as co-writer and producer, but these were quibbles in the minds of most observers, footnotes to what remained a mold-breaking deal.
Voice that's earning a bean or two...: He's long been recognised for his rugged good looks. But who'd have thought Sean Bean's blunt Sheffield accent would go on to earn him further stardom? Leading roles in films like Goldeneye and Lord Of The Rings have made the city-born actor an internationally famous face. But today it's not just on the big screen that the former welder is making sparks fly.
AP praises 'King' in video game review: The trouble with the video game version of "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" is that it's too hard to conquer but too cool to quit playing.
Lee to Boycott 'Rings' Premiere after being cut from Finale: Christopher Lee has been dropped from the new Lord of the Rings film, he confirmed today. He had expected to play a pivotal role in the climax of the film, The Return Of The King, which is released next month. But the 81-year-old star said his scenes have ended up on the cutting room floor. Asked if he would attend, he said: "No, what's the point? What's the point of going? None at all." (Similar report on ITV, Ananova, The Sun, Telegraph and BBC News)
Sir Ian McKellen has updated his White Book again with more behind the scenes stories.
'Two Towers' extended edition nicely fleshes out story: If you liked the theatrical version of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," you're going to love the expanded edition on video and DVD. Director Peter Jackson has added 43 minutes, bringing an already super-size fantasy to a new running time of three hours and 23 minutes. And not just superfluous footage, either. No, these additions help flesh out the story and lend texture to the plot. You actually learn details missing from the original narrative.
As part of their on-going 'Gollum Gala 2003' celebration, Sideshow/Weta Collectibles has posted an interview with Andy Serkis (Gollum).
TheOneRing.net has posted pictures of some gorgeous, spoiler-free, postcards available Nov. 18 at Close Up Shop, featuring Aragorn, Frodo, Frodo and Sam, and not one, but TWO editions of Legolas. Check them out!
Most Drool-Inducing Bonus Point:
Listen up, ladies. On disc four, in the "Warriors of the Third Age" feature, viewers are treated to shots of Orlando Bloom wearing a tank top and practicing his swordplay. Forget the ring. That's what I call "precious."
Most Pain-Filled Bonus Point:
The "Cameras in Middle Earth" documentary provides details about the various ailments suffered by cast members, including the moment when Viggo Mortensen broke his toes (which actually ended up in the film's final cut); Bloom's struggles with a broken rib; and the pain inflicted on Merry and Pippin by Treebeard.

TV Alert: BBC One (UK) - Troy on Film 2003 with Jonathan Ross on BBC1, 11:15 pm
New pic of the week, an older picture of Orlando taken from an article of pictures Elijah Wood took. Last weeks is in Mag Pics.
Film 2003 with Jonathan Ross will be showing a little bit of Troy (probably the trailer) tonight at 11:15pm on BBC 1. It is also posted on the CharactersInBloom group that they have guaranteed Orlando will be in it.
Soundtrack news: Featured vocalists are Billy Boyd (yes, it's our very own Pippin singing on the track "The Steward of Gondor"), Renee Fleming ("Twilight and Shadow" and "The Return of the King"), Sir James Galway ("The Black Gate Opens" and "The Return of the King"), Viggo Mortensen (yup, Aragorn is singing on the track "The Return of the King"!), and Annie Lennox ("Into the West"). Total CD running time is 72:07. The soundtrack comes out November 25th.
Orlando is in an article in Elle Quebec December. The title is Vava Bloom. Nothing new in it. They talk about how he got the Legolas part, his childhood and they say that he is still amazed by what's happening to him right now.
Molly Van Ryn, 15, brandishes her Spanish notebook, showing off how she decorated it with a cutout of Orlando Bloom, the actor who plays the elf Legolas in "Lord of the Rings." A heated debate ensues over whether Orlando is worthy of such notebook worship. Jessica Escott, warming her palms on a mocha, balks, "He is so not hot; hot is Johnny Depp." Uh-huh, Molly concedes. "Hot is Daniel Radcliffe," Jessica continues. (That's the kid who plays Harry Potter, by the way.) Molly hoots: Orlando is clearly hotter than Harry Potter. Beneath those elf ears, she points out, lies undeniable hotness.
An Almost Holy Trinity: Gene Seymour of Newsday: Why we're psyched: If you've seen the previous two installments, you already know why. Why we're nervous: There's always a chance that this whole shebang could go out with a whimper - but we doubt it somehow.
The Official Website has posted a new clip of Peter Jackson's cameo as a gong player on the Two Towers score. Amusing.
TheOneRing.net has posted pictures of a huge Legolas stamp banner, huge Legolas's arrow through a building and Easterling armour.
Billy's Master and Commander video interview: Master And Commander also stars Billy Boyd - better known as The Lord Of The Rings' Pippin - as ship's coxswain Barrett Bonden. For Scotsman Billy the chance to sail the high seas was a once in a lifetime opportunity. "Seafaring movies are generally well-known as being hard to make. I think that's why we haven't seen one for so many years so this really is a one-off," he explains.
Billy Boyd is on course to achieve a lifetime ambition: LORD of the Rings star Billy Boyd is on course to achieve a lifetime ambition. Although his role as Pippin in the hit movie trilogy has propelled him to stardom, his dream is to play Hamlet at Glasgow's Citizens' Theatre. Billy may be more used to working with big name stars such as Russell Crowe and Sir Ian McKellen. But now he's in negotiations to land his perfect role on home turf. He said: "I love Shakespeare. There are so many fantastic plays but if I have my choice I'd want to play Hamlet. "It's the ultimate acting part.
Wellington's Embassy Theatre is taking no chances when it screens the world premiere of Peter Jackson's The Return of the King on December 1. On Saturday the theatre's six-year-old $75,000 Simplex projector was lifted by crane back into the projection booth. It had been removed for several weeks as part of the theatre's refurbishment for the premiere. But also in place will be a temporary backup projector, in case the unthinkable happens – a glitch during the screening of the third Lord of the Rings movie.
The newest attraction at Wellington International Airport has touched down. A six-metre high model of the Lord of the Rings character Gollum has taken its place on top of the airport building. The statue will act as a welcoming symbol for those touching down in the capital to attend the world premiere of the final movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy "The Return of the King" on December 1.
Pandemoniumfromamerica: Browse News By Band Name - Viggo Mortensen, who plays Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, is working on a solo album called Pandemoniumfromamerica. The disc will feature guest appearances by head Hobbit Elijah Wood, Guns N' Roses guitarist extraordinaire Buckethead and Travis. The record will be available later this month through Percival Press, and will include songs, instrumentals and spoken-word performances...
Studios bring out best now: Dec. 17 - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." It's finally here, the last chapter of Peter Jackson's superb three-part adaptation. Is this the part that'll finally earn this awesome enterprise the Oscar?
Tolkien tale is sure to test your skills: You can sneak a peak at scenes from the upcoming "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" movie, the final part of Peter Jackson's blockbuster movie trilogy based on the J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy novels. But you'll have to do a lot of hacking and slashing to do it.
According to IWon Celebrity Gossip and Salon.com, Rachel Miner will appear in "Haven" as a rich adolescent (Pippa Ridley) who moves to the Virgin Islands with her tax-avoiding father (Bill Paxton).

TV Alert: STAR2 (Starz #2) - Black Hawk Down, 10 pm.
All major Rings stars will attend Wellington premiere: A few surprises are in store heading towards the Wellington premiere of the third Rings movie, the "Return of the King". The film's distributors have confirmed that all its major stars will be on hand for the premiere, except for Christopher Lee and Cate Blanchett. Wellington Airport chief John Sheridan says the 6-metre high model of Gollum, which peered over the top of the Embassy Theatre for last year's premiere, will be installed at the airport on Sunday. He says there are also some other surprises in store for the famous faces from overseas, but he will not yet reveal just what they are.
LotR: The Two Towers 4-Disc Special Extended DVD Version - Digital Bits Review: [review by Bill Hunt, editor of The Digital Bits] The actors' track is the most engaging and entertaining. As one would expect, these people really enjoy interacting with one another. There's an enthusiasm for this project that really shines through. More than a dozen cast members contribute, including several new participants whose characters appear for the first time in this film. About the only significant person absent is Viggo Mortensen, who doesn't apparently like to do commentaries (but is thankfully in evidence all over the documentaries on Discs Three and Four). On the writer/director's track, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens give what I think is the most interesting of the commentaries. They discuss the challenges of adapting the second book in the trilogy into a film, and how they struggled with it right through filming. There's also wonderful discussion of the performances of the actors, and how pick-up shots were done after principle photography to enhance the dramatic or emotional impact of certain scenes. The design team and production team commentaries are also interesting, if a bit dry, and cover all kinds of filmmaking related topics and detail.
The world premiere of "Return of the King", the last in the movie trilogy Lord of the Rings, will feature in Sky Television's first ever live broadcast on its SKY Movies channel. The channel plans to screen a 90-minute red carpet special from 5.30 to 7pm on the 1st of December. The event will be hosted by Stephen McIvor, who will be joined by co-host Jo Hathaway. Executive Producer Nigel Godfrey says it will be a spectacular show as they have been given access to a number of locations along the parade route. (Similar report from Scoop).
Tender is the knight: In New Zealand, Sir Ian McKellen is quite literally on the money. From this week, the Kiwi 50 cent piece will come engraved with the Queen on one side and Gandalf (as played by McKellen) on the other. It's part of a set of coins minted to celebrate the success of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, which was entirely shot in New Zealand. One has the impression that this is an honour which McKellen is happy - indeed slightly tickled - to accept. Even so, he's not letting it go to his head. While admitting that the Gandalf on the coin is "not unlike the one I played", the actor insists that the picture is of Tolkien's wizard, and not of McKellen himself. "I'm very much riding on Gandalf's bandwagon," he explains. "I like to think of myself as his agent." To see Ian holding the coin: Ian w/coin.
Top holiday movie contenders: Here are the films likely to clean up this holiday season: • Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (projected gross, $300 million) -- When you have marathon screenings of all three films sold out the day before the official release, you have some serious interest. Peter Jackson has delivered in the first two installments. There's nothing to say he won't here. But what does he do for an encore?
The Return of the King - A Benefit for Carleton College: From TORN: Please join us for the grand finale of the Lord of the Rings trilogy! Barrie Osborne '66, producer of the highly acclaimed films, will once again host a benefit pre-screening for Carleton College, two weeks before the film opens nationally. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King will be shown at three theaters in the Block E - Crown Theatre complex in downtown Minneapolis.
In the new issue of Teen People they have a little picture of the Pirates of the Caribbean DVD. It'll have 19 deleted clips, blooper reel, documentary with Jerry, Johnny, Kiera, and much much more! Can't wait until the DVD comes out December 2nd!
Special Rings films for Irish fans: 'Lord of the Rings' fans will have the chance to see the Special Extended Editions of the first two films in Dublin next month. In advance of the release of the third film in the trilogy, 'The Return of the King', both 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Two Towers' will be screened in Ster Century, Liffey Valley. 'The Fellowship of the Ring' will be shown from 5 to 11 December with 'The Two Towers' onscreen from 12 to 15 December. On 16 December both films will be shown consecutively. 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' then opens on 17 December.
The forums at BillyBoyd.net were closed last week. Stewart, the site administrator, made the decision to close the forums fairly rapidly. "We were not given the time or the tools to reorganize properly and effectively; and as a result, the more than 10,000 members at BillyBoyd.net... many of them longtime members... were displaced and cut off from friends, with no clue where to go. I would like to make you aware that large numbers of Billys' loons are regrouping on this new YaBB forum: www.panta-loons.boydism.net. Please note that this is an unofficial website. It is not affiliated in any way with Billy Boyd, or BillyBoyd.net."

The Official LotR site has posted a sneak peak at the Two Towers extended edition, new clips will be posted everyday. Today's clip is the Humanity at Helm's Deep.
Orlando Bloom is set to star in and co-produce the crime drama "Haven" alongside co-stars Bill Paxton and Gabriel Byrne for El Camino Pictures and helmer Frank E. Flowers, who is making his feature debut on the project. Joy Bryant, Victor Rasuk and Anthony Mackie also are on board to star in "Haven," with shooting scheduled to begin this month in the Cayman Islands. From a script by Flowers, "Haven" takes place over the course of one weekend as two shady businessmen (Paxton and Byrne) flee to the Cayman Islands to avoid prosecution from the federal government. Their escape ignites a chain reaction that leads Bloom, a British native, to commit a crime that has enormous implications.
Fantasy Boyfriends: Who Would You Pick?: Netscape is running a poll on "Who would you pick to be your Boyfriend" and Orlando is one of the contenders and he's currently winning. The site explains why women love him and why he'd make a great boyfriend.
Bloom, Byrne, Paxton roles made in 'Haven': Orlando Bloom, Bill Paxton and Gabriel Byrne will star in "Haven," which is financed by El Camino Pictures, the film financing company formed by Bob Yari with William Morris Independent. Frank E. Flowers will make his feature directing debut from his own script, which takes place over the course of one weekend. In "Haven," two shady businessmen flee to the Cayman Islands to avoid federal prosecution. Their escape ignites a chain reaction that leads a British native to commit a crime that changes the country. Rounding out the cast are Victor Rasuk ("Raising Victor Vargas"), Joy Bryant ("Antwone Fisher") and Anthony Mackie ("8 Mile"). Flowers wrote and directed the short film "Swallow," which won the HBO short film award at the American Black Film Festival. Producers are Robbie Brenner and Yari, with Bloom co-producing. Executive producers are Aleen Keshishian and Kelli Konop. El Camino also financed "A Love Song for Bobby Long," which stars John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson and will be distributed by Screen Gems, and "Sueno," starring John Leguizamo.
Bloom joining Byrne in crime movie: The Hollywood Reporter says the film takes place over a weekend as two businessmen (Byrne and Paxton) flee to the Cayman Islands to avoid federal prosecution. Their escape then sets off a chain of events, which leads to Bloom's character getting drawn into a crime. Shooting is scheduled to begin this month in the Cayman Islands. Bloom will next be seen on Irish screens in the third 'Lord of the Rings' movie, 'The Return of the King'; it opens on 17 December.

The two most wanted: Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have been named the most eligible people in English society. Bloom, the 26-year-old star of Pirates Of The Caribbean and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, managed to oust Prince Harry from the top spot thanks to his Hollywood good looks - according to Tatler magazine's judges. The list rates the 100 eligible men and women - chosen because they are unmarried (although they may be dating) and that they attend society functions. Tatler editor Geordie Greig said sheer sex appeal put Bloom and Knightley at the top of the magazine's annual Little Black Book, adding: "It is a very dynamic and sexy list. Bloom is the name, face, body and mind whom all women would seem to feel happy having on their arm. (Same report at Empire Online).

"The Lord of the Rings" had its roots in a grand literary epic: Like "Samurai," "The Lord of the Rings" had its roots in a grand literary epic. Early on, there had been discussion about compacting Tolkien's behemoth adventure into one or two movies. To satisfy fans and do honor to the sprawling story, director Jackson got the go-ahead to divide it into a trilogy, the parts roughly coinciding to Tolkien's three installments, "The Fellowship of the Ring," "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King." Each movie runs three hours, with extended video versions adding half an hour or more to each. "You couldn't have a 10-hour movie," said Viggo Mortensen, who stars as the human warrior Aragorn in "The Lord of the Rings" films. "I always looked at it as one story, three movies. I never understood the talk of this whole cliffhanger thing. I would say, people who knew the books wouldn't have said anything about that. They would view it as one story broken up into three pieces."
Houghton Mifflin - LOTR Book and DVD Event: Houghton Mifflin will be hosting a Lord of the Rings Book and DVD event in 20 cities Nationwide on November 5, 2003 to celebrate the release of their 3 Return of the King Movie tie-in books:
Gearing up for Return of the King!: Starting this week, the Lord of the Rings hype kicks into full gear and with the events scheduled throughout the month, the excitement should continue to build right up until the December 17th release of Return of the King.
Shore prepares for the last episode of Lord of the Rings: Oscar-winning Canadian composer Howard Shore is at work on 'the twelfth hour' of Peter Jackson's epic Lord of the Rings. Shore has been a part of the project since the trilogy's first movie, The Fellowship of the Ring, released in 2001, and with the anticipated arrival of The Return of the King, he is finishing up years of work for the conclusion. "The score that I've been writing has thirty, forty, motifs and major themes to it. It's reflecting the Tolkien book. Tolkien spent forty years writing Lord of the Rings so the story itself has such depth and layers," said Shore.
The Pay List: Footballers, supermodels and pop stars are joined by Orlando Bloom, 26, whose roles in such films as Pirates of Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl have earned him 6 million pounds and Paula Radcliffe, 29, whose 1.8 million pounds from marathon running means she is the first track and field athlete to make the List.

Party Animal: GQ Men of the Year USA: One Brit actor who did turn up was Orlando Bloom looking too gorgeous and fit, and flirting with a variety of Hollywood starlets, a cut above the likes of Jodie and Jordan.
Mention of Kingdom of Heaven in the December issue of Empire magazine:
"Such big-budget historical epics as Troy and the two Alexander projects can all be traced back to one film: Gladiator. To go one better, Sir Ridley Scott is prepping Kingdom of Heaven, a tale set in the Crusades. 'I'm budgeted and I'm ready to go on January 12th. And it's huge,' he told Pipeline. 'I have to build Jerusalem.' And who better to star than Orlando Bloom, who is tipped to take the lead role of Salaq Ul-Hul. 'Ul-Hul, by all reports, was the whitest Knight of all, the most reliable,' says Scott. Sounds like Orlando to us."
LOTR behind-the-scenes secrets: Fisher and Sibley are both authors of official guide books to the film trilogy, so they're well placed to share their insider knowledge. "Both Brian and I have visited the production a number of times and have different experiences," Fisher said. "I saw a lot of the principal filming in 2000/2001, then re-shoots in 2002, so have a lot of insights into the interactions on and off set, how Peter Jackson directs, the cast and their views on the work. Brian has spent several weeks this summer researching his authorised biography of Peter Jackson, so has insights into the vast amount of work involved in wrapping up the theatrical release of Return of the King, only just completed.
Library becomes 'Lord of the Rings' land for one night: Once they made it past the Arch of Moria, the silver Mallorns of Lorien and of course the buffet table, the Public Library's meeting room was a scene right out of middle-earth Thursday night. To conclude more than a year of programs structured around the popular J. R. R. Tolkien trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings," nearly 40 costumed characters came out to test their trilogy trivia skills and listen to a dramatic reading. For a change, Hobbits didn't have to hide from the Black Riders, and Ents and Elves mingled over apple cider and cookies.
Matrix first look: Fox News review of Hugo Weaving's The Matrix Revolutions. Heavy Spoilers ahead!
Bruckheimer's best: Pirates of the Caribbean: This improbable hit took its inspiration from a Disney ride and then tossed Johnny Depp into the mix.
Hot Boy Movie: The "Hot Boy Movie" DeWig, a Portland State University freshman studying opera, recalls how before "Pirates" opened, her friends called it " the Hot Boy Movie," thanks to Depp and co-star Orlando Bloom. But after seeing it, DeWig was hooked. She admired the movie's Errol Flynn-style flair and "comedy that doesn't treat you like you're stupid."
Movie magic strengthens: "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King," which opens Dec. 21, would have to earn more than $339.8 million to match the phenomenal gross of last year's "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers." The first film in the phenomenally successful series, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," earned a stellar $313.4 million two years ago. " 'Return of the King' will probably be one of the few third movies that bucks a trend," Gray predicted. "It's poised to do more than 'Two Towers,' which outgrossed 'Fellowship.' That was unprecedented."
Once You Dress an Elf, a Samurai's Easy: In "Lord of the Rings," Ms. Dickson strives for period flavor through a palette that varies from deep blue and sepia to the ivory and claret a medieval aristocrat might have deemed elegant. But color is just one of the elements that gives both films their subdued opulence. Another is texture. It shows in the latticework of handstitched beading on Galadriel's gowns, and not less in the armor of the samurai.
Sick of Orlando: Guess someone's not happy with too much Orlando on BBCi Films website.
Pirie-born star in 'Rings': Knowing that more than half the world's population will watch his movie, Return of the Kings, when it is released in December is a daunting thought for Port Pirie-born actor, John Noble. With a major role as Denethor in the final of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, one of the most successful undertakings in cinematic history, he accepts that his face will become known around the world once the movie has been released. Spoilers ahead!
