Moods
of Elvas through images from 1995
A Composite
collection of moody photos taken at Elvas tower area in the fall
of 1995 displays mostly sunsets. This I guess represents the start
of the sun setting on an era of railroading that will never be
again. In about four years from this moment, the tower will close
and the mood will never be the same...
Box Car blows
by the camera on a whispy evening, promising a beautiful sunset...
Construction
equipment stored on the site is used by the maintenance gangs
through out Northern California.
A spooky SD-40
crawls by under a soupy fall '95 sky.
Tripod the camera,
lock down the shutter, and you have laser pointed locomotive heading
into the Sacramento bound tracks of the Elvas wye.
Late in the
afternoon an SP trademark tunnel motor locomotive rounds the east
wye headed for Stockton and L.A. beyond.
This afternoon
8528 has the honors.
Don't let the
mood of this picture fool you, the operator inside is up to his
ears in allegators routing trains into and through the Sacramento
area.
As this evening
winds down the sunset takes it's many faces at the camera.
A week later,
sunset at Brighton takes shape. This spot is overlooking Sacramento
and is south of Elvas about 2 miles.
What else can
I say?
