The    Emotion    Cube

was one of the earliest developments in our emotion model, and one of the most fruitful. The cube in based on the assumption that emotion and cognitive development are inseparably interwoven, and so a classification of emotions is possible based on the most fundamental modes of cognition. From the emotion cube, we can infer the existence of a set of basic interactions and dynamical loops. By assuming that the neural architecture evolved to implement the basic cognitive components in a modular fashion (what Marvin Minsky calls "Insulationism" to contrast with connectionism), and by further assuming that that the process of cognitive development is an evolution-like process involving trial and error variation and selection, we can map the emotion cube onto the neural architecture and so assign various functions to each major area of the brain.

What Is This Site About?

This site will be a more informal, applications oriented companion to our Emotion Theory and Modeling site. Both are currently under construction, so be patient :-) Here you will find a more general discussion of what emotion is, the purpose and function of emotion, emotion and the brain, emotional dynamics, emotion and cognitive development, emotion and mental illness, etc. Any links, suggestions, or comments are appreciated at any time :-)

I hope that you will find this page useful in your own intellectual and spiritual journey!
