Are James and Jessie in love? I The Pokemon Trend I More Rants

Does James Like Jessie?

James may be self-centered alot of the time, but *I* believe that he really does "like" Jessie. In "Holy Matrimony", didn't he leave behind an entire FORTUNE to be with her?

There's lots more proof. In "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak", Jessie saves James from the seducing clutches of the ghost. James gives her an excited look and says, "Jessie! You really *do* care!"

In "Pokemon Shipwreck", look at the expression on James' face as he realizes that Jessie is concerned about him. It's a look that says, "Wow, it's so wonderful to know that Jessie really cares about me..." Then he hugs her and says, "O-ho-ho, Jessie! PLEASE don't abandon me!" Hehe!

In "The Ultimate Test", James is totally bummed out when Jessie gets expelled from the Pokemon League Exam. He vows to himself that he's going to fight for Jessie. "Jessie's been expelled...now I'll have to do my best for her!" Later on in that episode, he's battling the Pokemon instructor. As he throws the Pokeball, he yells out "This one's for you, Jessie!" Sadly, (but not surprisingly) he ends up losing the match, and he's completely devasted. He sits in front of a tree by himself and whines, "
I'm *such* a *loser*..." I think it's cute how James lets it get to him that he fought to avenge Jessie, but he still lost. I mean, he's lost MANY times before, but he's never gotten *that* upset about it.

On the other hand, though, it doesn't seem that James is *completely* enamored with Jessie. See the look on his face when he realizes how much Jessie Belle looks like Jessie? He's like, "Oh my god, I'll *never* escape her!" There have been times when James has insulted Jessie's looks (but most likely because he's jealous ^_~). Take, for example, in "Pokemon Scent-sation":

Jessie: Sweet revenge for stamping an "X" on the most *beautiful* face in the world! (referring to herself, of course...)

James: (under his breath) Talk about *illusions*...

Also, there have been times that Jessie has shown interest in other men, and James doesn't seem to get jealous. In "A Chansey Operation," while Jessie is flirting with Doctor Proctor, he just seems to be wearing a look of disgust. He even mocks her for it:

Jessie: (getting a "hearts-in-her-eyes" look) I'll do my best!

James: (with the same look) Me, too!

James has also shown interest in other women besides Jessie. So, who knows? Maybe he's just good at hiding his feelings.

It's obvious that James cares deeply for Jessie, although it's unclear whether or not it's fully platonic. I think Pokemon's creators could have been hinting or foreshadowing *something* when they made James' fiance identical to Jessie. I don't see why they would just do it out of the blue. Also, in "The Problem With Paras", when Meowth falls in love with Cassandra, James tells him that he knows "exactly how he feels", and that "Cupid's arrow strikes when you least expect it". Maybe the "unexpected strike" that James speaks of came from Jessie!

Does Jessie Like James?

*sigh* Jessie sure is hard to understand sometimes. Sadly, it doesn't seem that she really likes James more than a friend (Is she blind or something?!). I really think that her temper is too short to be able to put up with James if they were an "item", and she seems to possess alot more self-love than he. BUT, if my theory about Jessie is correct (the theory that she doesn't have enough confidence to admit her feelings to James), maybe she's just distancing herself from those feelings to keep from being hurt.

Jessie seems to still have her mind set on an old flame. In "Ditto's Mysterious Mansion", she shows Ditto a picture of "her first love" ( a picture that she still carries around? ). She asks Ditto to tranform into what the guy would look like *now*. How keeeeewt. (We love you, Jess, but get over it! You have the cutest guy in the Pokemon world right at your side!)

Jessie doesn't usually seem like she'd be the flirtatious type, but in "A Chansey Operation", Good Ol' Doctor Proctor tries some smooth talking on her...haha...and Jessie flirts right back, while James is standing right beside her.

Ack...on the other hand, maybe Jessie just isn't satisfied with only *one* guy...?

Okay, now out with the bad. There is *some* evidence that *might* point out that Jessie likes James. Like the fact that she worries about him. In "Pokemon Shipwreck", they come to a room that they must cross that has flames blazing everywhere. James is scared, and he tells Jessie and Meowth to go on ahead of him. ( I imagine he figures that Jessie and Meowth really *are* going to go ahead, too. ) But Jessie doesn't like the idea to much!

Jessie: *slapping James* (...See? She's just the violent type! It's nothing personal!) James, James, James, James, James!! (blushing) How long do you think you'd *last* on this side? (voice and expression softening) Now let's go. We'll cross together.

In "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak", James is kidnapped by the ghost of the Maiden. Jessie whips out her big bazooka and shoots at the ghost, saving James ^_^. When James points out that Jessie must really care about him, Jessie seems to get pretty flustered...she jabbers a bunch of junk about "It's not you! I just hate women who always wait around for their man as though she were their faithful pet," etc., etc., etc...

In "Holy Matrimony", look how sad Jessie is when she thinks James has quit the team to marry Jessie Belle. ^sniff, sniff...^

...But look how happy she is when James comes back! Awww...

Okay, so it's definitely a sure thing that Jessie and James are great friends. But...and I'm sorry if I offend anyone when I say this, but they're all over each other *quite alot*...they're always hugging/holding hands, etc...I mean, I don't know many best friends that are like that. Maybe it's just me.

Jessie and James think that they're a goner...and that they'll die in each others arms...how cute! It seems like Jessie sometimes looks to James for protection if they're in trouble. In "Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon", when the scary, nasty prehistoric Pokemon first wake up, Jessie practically *flings* herself into James' arms.

Who could argue that Jessie and James would make the perfect couple? They're so...perfect. Like two peas in a pod. They think alike, act alike, dress alike, and they're both such beautiful villains! Well, for now, we can only pray. *sigh*

The Pokemon Trend...
With Gahn as my witness, I will *always* love Pokemon. It's great that there are so many people that share this interest with me; if it weren't for Pokemon's popularity, we'd probably be without the new episodes, tons and tons of Pokemon-related products, and a movie...but for the love of James, the whole TREND thing is starting to annoy the crap out of me. A year ago, I could wear my Pikachu shirt, and nobody would recognize it but the *true* Pokemon fans. Now, wherever I go, I'm at risk of being called a "Trend freak", or having people yell "Pokemon sucks! It's for ten-year olds!" or something along those lines. (Either that, or I have people yelling stuff like "PIKA PIKA!" or "BULBA BULBA!" at me...)

Well, I am *proud* to say, I'm sixteen, and I've been an avid fan of anime most of my life. I can remember, back in the day...it was probably around September of '98, when Pokemon first debuted in America, I thought "Hey...it's anime! It's gotta be cool!" My friends and I started watching it, every morning at six while getting ready for marching band (which started at 6:30...), then we'd spend first hour talking about the episode. Good times. Nowadays, every time I try to go to the mall to get myself some cool Pokemon stuff, I have to push through humongous crowds of screaming little snot-nosed brats.

I know that's harsh, but it makes me very angry, because *they* are the fad-followers. Pokemon is nothing to them but the "flavor of the month". It's *insane*.

I went to go watch the Pokemon movie on Wednesday night, and even though I live in a teeny-tiny podunk town with a fair-sized theatre, the theatre was PACKED with little tykes who wouldn't SHUT UP after the movie started, who wouldn't stop yelling stuff like "HEY LOOK, MOMMY, IT'S MEW! MEWMEWMEWMEWMEW!!!"

I mean, kids are *stabbing each other* for cards, the game is being exiled on playgrounds all over the country, Baptist ministers are burning Pokemon toys, psychologists are even comparing Pokemon obsessions to alcohol and drug addictions. It's all of *those* people that are making Pokemon look bad.

I understand that many of us are true fans, and we'll still like Pokemon *after* the whole craze is over. But currently, I'm starting to get rather annoyed. I'm able to laugh at it all, though, because I know that it will end eventually, and then, I'll get *huge* discounts on all the Poke-merchandise I could never afford ^_^.
