Abatawa--Supposedly the tiniest of human form in existence. These little people live peacefully with the ants in the anthills of Southern Africa, and live on their foragings from the roots of grasses and other plants. They are very shy, which makes them elusive. However, they tend to show themselves to very young children, wizards, and pregnant woment.

Abominable Snowman--Sometimes called a Yeti, is a giant believed by the Himalayan tribesmen, to roam the mountains at nigh, searching for victims. It has an upright stance and is covered from head to toe with thick hair, and an appearance between an ape and a human. A similar creature is the Sasquatch, or Bigfoot.

Aine--She is a Faerie goddess, sister to Fennine, daughter of the king of the Tuatha de Danann. The Earl of Desmond fell in love with her when he saw her sitting by Lough Gur. He captured and married her. Their son was Earl Fitzgerald. The Earl of Desmond's taboo was that he could never show that he was surprised by anything his son did. Unfortunately, he couldn't hold to it when he saw his son jusmp in and out of a bottle. His son fled in the form of a wild goose and Aine disappeared into Knock Aine.

Alven--These are little water faeries that originated in the netherlands. They have bodies that are so light that they are almost invisible. Although they are do not have wings, they can travel through the air encased in a bubble. Occasionally they will show themselves by wearing the skin of an otter. They will only show malice to humans if you destroy their homes or sacred plants. They are most active at night, because they are creatures of the moon under whose light they dance and play. They live in ponds, lakes, and rivers, but the River Elbe is sacred to them, and they make this their principal home. They cherish night blooming plants, and will harm any human who attempts to pick or destroy them. Fish are their only known enemies, so they prefer to live in enclosed waters where there are none.

Angiaks--Children of the living dead of Eskimo lore. In hard times, unwanted babies were taken out into the snow by tribal elders to die of exposure to the elements. Unless the tribe would move to a new hunting ground, they would often find themselves haunted by this small, miserable ghost.

Ankou--The faerie version of the grim reaper. He originated in Brittany, and He is sometimes portrayed as a comforting figure. He is also a part of the fifth element(spirit). He drives a black cart, which is sometimes described as a hearse, drawn by 4 black horses in which he comes to collect the souls of those who have recently passed over, and escort them to the land of the dead.

Anthropophagi--A cannibal faerie. He has no head, but his eyes sit on top of his shoulders and a mouth may be found in his torso. His lack of a nose allows him to eat human flesh without gagging.

Arkan Sonney--Fairy pigs that live on the Isle of Man. They are also called "Lucky Piggies." They bring good luck if they are captured.

Asparas--Usually female. They are also known as sky-dancers. They bless humans at important stages in their lives, and are often seen at weddings. They live in Fig trees, and sometimes appear to scholars or scientists, seduce and exhaust them, making sure that they do not venture into areas that the spirit world deems unfit.

Ashrays--These are water faeries that originated in Scotland. They are both male and female, and look like they are about 20 years old in human time, but they are quite older than that. They are completely nocturnal, and if they are hit by the sun's rays, they will turn into a pool of rainbow water.

Asrai--small, delicate, female faeries who melt into a pool of water when captured or exposed to sunlight.

Attorcroppe--Looks like a small serpent with arms and legs, and walks upright. Do not approch if you should happen to see one, as they are very malevolent.

Awd Goggie--A type of Bogie. He haunts forests and orchards, and kidnaps children. Wis children will stay away from orchards when no one is watching, or Awd Goggie will get them.


Ballybogs--Other names include: Bogles, Peat Faeries, Mudbogs, Bog-a-boos, and Bogies. They are very small mud covered creatures. These solitary faeries are said to be either helpful or harmful, but are said to be so stupid that it is hard to tell what their temprement is. They grunt and slobber instead of speaking. They can be found at peat bogs or mud holes.

Banshee--Also spelled Bean Sidhe. She's and Irish death spirit. Seeing them fortells a death. They have long flowing hair, and wear green dresses with grey cloaks. Their eyes are bright red because of their constant weeping. She is sometimes a beautiful maiden, and other times, a hideous hag.

Barguest--Also a type of Bogie. It has horns, dangerous teeth and claws, and fiery eyes. It can take many forms, but usually that of a shaggy black dog. Upon the death of a prominent figure, it rounds up all the dogs in the community, and leads them on a procession throught the streets, howling.

Bauchan--Also called a Bogan. Like most faeries, they are fond of tricks, sometimes dangerous, and sometimes helpful.


Bean-Nighe--(ben-neeyah)A type of Banshee around streams in Scotland and Ireland. She washed bloodstained clothing of people that would soon die. They are rumored to be the ghosts of women who died in childbirth and will continue to wash until the day they should have died.

Bean-Fionne--aka...The Water Woman. She loves children, and a kiss from her renders a child indestructible. She has also been known to give directions to lost travelers. She will drown those who displease her, or harm children. She is also called Jenny Greenteeth, which has become a sort of generic name for these kinds of drowning faeries.

Bean-Tighe--The word Bean-Tighe means "woman of the house." A grandmother type of faerie. She will do chores and look after the children as long as you give her milk and cakes. They esspecially enjoy strawberries and cream...

Bendith y Mamau--(ben-dith uh momay) Welsh name for faeries, that translates to "Mother's Blessing." a phrase used as a prayer to protect from evil.

Black Annis--She's unique, because she is a cannibal.

Blue Hag--see Cailleac Bhuer

--Blue Men of the Muir--They dwell in the strait between Long Island and the Shiant Islands. They are responsible for sudden thunderstorms and shipwrecks, but their ship-sinking may be thwarted if you are an adept rhymer. Some think they may be fallen angels. also see merpeople

Bocan--Their sole purpose is to attack and mutilate travelers...contact not advised...

Bodach--also called a Bugbear, or Bug-A-Boo. They slide down chimneys and kidnap naughty children.

Bogart--The cousin of the Brownie...They are also called: Hobgoblins, Goblins, Gobelins, The Boogey Man, Boogies, Padfoot, Bogans, Hobbers, Gobs, and Blobs. He is different from the brownie in that instead of adopting a house for helping out, he will adopt a house for the sheer delight of destroying things.

Bogie--This is a generic name for different types of faeries. Their temperments range from benign to malevolent. Also see Ballybogs.

Bogles--they are generally nasty in temperment. However, they prefer to inflict their evil deeds upon liars and murderers.

Bokwus--A fearsome spirit of the great northwestern American spruce forests. He is only seen in glimpses, but has been seen wearing face paints. Hunters are very aware of his presence. He likes to push feshermen off the banks to drown, taking the victim's soul to his home in the forest.

The Brown Man of the Muirs--He is the protector of wild animals.

The Brownie--They are the most benevolent and kind faeries, you could hope to meet. They are typically tiny, shaggy looking men with wrinkled brown skin. They are about 25 inches tall, and are usually dressed in little suits of brown, green, or blue.Brownies like to adopt houses which they look after. They come out at night to finish small chores, and to look over the cattle. They dislike laziness, and if there is a lazy servant in the home, he might choos to plague him for it. All Brownies expect in return is a bowl of cream or good milk and a honey cake. Never leave clothes and never leave too much food. They find this offensive, and will leave. Care should be taken not to critiesize their work.. When one farmer criticized the mowing job, the Brownie threw the entire crop over a cliff.

Bugul-Noz--He's a forest dweller, and he's hideously ugly, and he knows it, but he yearns for human companionship.

Bwaganod--Goblins who can shapeshift into other animal forms. They do not like humans.

The Bwca--They are the Welsh version of the Brownie. They have slightly nastier tempers, and are prone to tantrums if their work is criticized. They also despise tattletales and people with long noses.

Cailleac Bhuer--Other names: Blue Hag, Black Annis, and The Stone Woman. The word Cailleac means "old woman" and is used when referring to the Crone Goddess. There is only one, and she is depicted as wearing either black or blue tattered garmets, and is associated with winter.

Cannered-Noz--Breton version of the Bean-Sidhe.

Churn Milk Peg and Melch Dick--They are an arthritic old faerie couple. They jealously guard nut crops and hate lazy humans. They are usually dressed in peasant costumes dating from around the fifteenth century, and like to startle people out of their daydreams.

Cluricaun--Cousins to the Leprechaun. These little faeries raid wine cellars and torture sheep and dogs by riding them like horses in the moonlight.

Coblynau--(also Koblernigh) They are the Welsh mine faeries. They are considered good omens since the location of their mining usually precedes the discovery of ore.

Corrigan--Beautiful maiden by night, repulsive hag by day. She awaits the day when a human man might fall in love with her and be open-minded enough to follow through the daytime. When this happens, she will retain her maiden form permanently.

Cururipur--A powerful South American spirit who owns the jungle and tortures tortoise hunters since the tortoises are his friends.
