Sharing The Plan Of Salvation

The first thing to ask someone when sharing the gospel is the ever pressing:

"If you were to die this very day where would you go?  Would you go anywhere or would you go to Heaven or Hell?  And if Heaven, Why?"

Some others:

"Do you have any kind of spiritual beliefs?"
     "To you, who is Jesus?"
"Do you believe that Heaven or Hell exists?"

A Key question to ask at the beginning:

"If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?"

If the answer to this question is, "Yes," then continue to share the gospel with them.
But if, "No," is their answer, then simply thank the person for their time and go on your way.

These are the verses that need to be read to the person or for them to read themselves.  Ask if they understand the verses and what the verses say to them. If needed expound on them yourself.  Make sure each one is clear:

God's Love

     1. John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Man's Problem Of Sin

     2. Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
     3. Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord."
     4. Proverbs 14:12 - "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."

God's Answer To Our Sin

     5. John 3:3 - "Jesus declared, 'I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
     6. John 14:6 - "Jesus said, 'I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  No man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."
     7. Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."

Accepting God's Gift

     8. Romans 10:9-11 - "If You Confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him From the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.  As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
     9. Revelation 3:20 - "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me."

After going through these verses with the person it is time for some closing questions.

     1. Are you a sinner?
     2. Do you want forgiveness for your sins?
     3. Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?
     4. Are you willing to surrender your life to Christ?
     5. Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life?

If these questions are answered with a  'yes' then it is time to pray.  Ask them if they want to pray a prayer for themselves or if they want you to pray with them.  Here is a prayer that one should pray:

Heavenly Father, I have sinned against You.  I want forgiveness for all my sins.  I believe that Jesus died on the cross for me and rose again.  Father, I give You my life to do with as You wish.  I want Jesus Christ to come into my life and into my heart.  This I ask in Jesus' name. Amen.

Any person who truly prays this prayer or one similar to it now has new life.  They have been born again. Give the person who has prayed this assurance.  Let them know they are a child of God.

     1. There sins are forgiven.

1 Peter 3:18a - "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God."

     2. They are a child of God.

John 1:12 - "Yet to all who received Him, to them who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."

     3. They have received eternal life.

John 5:24 - "I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."

This is the first day of their new life as a child of God.  They should trust Christ and follow Him daily. Make sure to let them know how they can strengthen their relationship with Christ. Here are the things they should do:

     1. Study their Bible Daily.
     2. Talk to God in prayer every day.
     3. Tell others about Jesus Christ.
     4. Obey Christ's command to be baptized.
     5. Fellowship with other Christians through a local, New Testament, Bible believing Church.
     6. Demonstrate their new life by their love and concern for others.

Make sure they know that they should give a profession of their faith in Christ. The only way given in the Scriptures is through baptism. Baptism being full submersion in water and full resurrection out of it. Symbolizing their crucifixion with Christ and their resurrection to new life with Christ.
