Even in the Fall & winter we think about the summer
shows, the cars must be clean, nice and shiny.
To really stand out, you want to go a bit further than
just a good wash and vacuum. You probably guess it, it's detailing time
!
After a good exterior and interior clean up there is a
couple of extras that will make all the difference.
The engine compartment should be all clean, grease free
and shiny.
The wheels and wheels wells should be clean and sprayed
with a tire cleaner / shiner.
For that extra clean look especially in car with open
wheels, ex five star wheels detail the brakes.
Engine:
Make sure that all the grease and dirt is cleaned. Parts that are
in need of a touch up should be painted. Same parts are aluminum, that
means that they can be polished up for a nice chrome look. Example the
5.0 Ford HO plate on top of the air plenum, the belt tensioner, and
the radiator support brackets in the Mustangs.
There is lot's of dress up parts for a variety of engines. Lot's
of course for the 5.0 engine, from valve covers to oil caps. Have
fun, it's not too expensive and make a big difference.
The paint inside the compartment should be waxed once in a while
and the hoses, plastic parts and rubber parts should be dressed, (shine
& protection).
Remember the engine compartment should be cleaned when
you clean your exterior !
Brake detailing
There is nothing better than a nice clean car, with detailed visible parts, the brakes are one of those parts. It is not to hard and not to expensive to have your car brakes looking good!
1st - Jack the car up, take wheels off (very important to secure car with jack stands )
2nd - Visually inspect your brakes (loose parts, fluid leaks, wear and tear)
3rd - Clean surrounding areas (shocks, wheels wells, etc.)
4rt - Clean brake parts
(BECARFUL - BRAKE DUST MIGHT CONTAIN ASBESTOS DO NOT INHALE DUST
- PROPER BREATHING MASK A GOOD IDEA)
(DO NOT SPRAY ANY SOAPY/OILY SUBSTANCE ON THE BRAKING SURFACE EXAMPLE
BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, ETC.)
5th - For the disk brakes paint visible areas with a heat resistant paint, I used aluminum paint for that brand new look. You can also paint it body color for that maching look.
6th - For the brake drums actually remove the drum and paint it with the same paint. While doing that you can pay attention to other parts like the shocks, springs and touch them up .
