Coming off a record car count the weekend before of 147 cars for the Stock Car Frostbuster, the staff at Fayette Co. Speedway braced themselves for the RacepartsStore.com Hobby Stock 20.  The Hobby Stock field of 25 cars did not disappoint the crowd as Darrin Walch from Postville took the $500 1st place check and trophy home.  Steve Holthaus from Cresco and Brian Irvine from Oelwein made it a 1-2-3 finish.
The Stock car class was won by Tom Schmitt of Independence for the second week in  a row.  Scott Bauer from Riceville was right there contesting all the way to take second place.  Third went to Norman Chesmore of Rowley.  The Modified class tuned up for this week's Miller Lite Modified 30 $750 to win, and provided the crowd with some great racing.  Chuck Stanton of New Hampton brought home the 1st place trophy while Jamie Aikey of Waterloo and Scott Hogan of Vinton challenged him coming in 2nd and 3rd.
The Hornet race was an exciting one with 2 rollovers, and was won by Johnny “Honda” Severtson of LaCrosse, with Chad Dugan of Garber 2nd and Brad Bolsinger of Garber coming in 3rd.
The new Late Model class for 2002 did not disappoint the crowd, with Brian Hunter of Independence taking the checkered flag as Dale Hackwell, Jr. from Washburn and Greg Kastli of Waterloo battled it out for 2nd and 3rd.
Crowd favorite Travis Johnson from Alpha was the winner in the Pure stock division, followed closely by Jimmy Broszeit of Postville and Brian Radloff from Monona.  The combination of Travis Flack and Jason Clinton won the 2 Man Cruiser division with Jeremy Steger and Bill Meyer winning 2nd, and  Jared Siebrecht and Dustin Meyer coming in 3rd.
Next week's Miller Lite Modified 30 promises to bring in some of the Midwest's best  Modified drivers as they test the track for the year's end World Dirt Racing League Modified Nationals to be held on Sat. & Sun. Sept 7 & 8.
