Nigerian Dwarf Goats

Felicity Farms is located in Bakersfield, California, in the Central Valley. We raise Nigerian Dwarf Goats for milk production and for show. A dwarf goat eats approximately half of what a full sized goat eats, requires less space for housing, and is easier to clean up after. Nigerian Dwarf goats give up to one half gallon of milk a day, some even more!

Many cities now recognize dwarf goats as pets according to zoning laws. This allows the city dweller the same enjoyment of goatkeeping that their country counterparts have always had! Within Bakersfield city limits 3 adult dwarf goats are allowed. Their offspring are allowed until they are weaned. Goats shown on this page belong to Starbuck Farms in Bakersfield, California.

We bottle feed our baby goats. Bottle fed goats tend to be more friendly. They are always glad to have visitors and will happily come to be loved and cuddled. The little goats chase the children and play, the older goats wait patiently by the fence, calling if they think you have forgotten them!

Another reason for bottle feeding is to keep milk production up. A doe will only give as much milk as her body tells her that the babies need. When the babies start to nurse less, she produces less milk. By milking and being sure that we take all of the milk each time, she continues to produce a sufficient amount of milk. Does that do not have their babies nursing are also more content to be milked.
