Characters

Zidane Tribal
Age: 16
Occupation: Thief
weapon: dagger

The charming boy-thief with a tail, Zidane serves as the default viewpoint character for most of FF9. A member of the acting company/thief guild Tantalus, Zidane moves from town to town and girl to girl until he meets a mysterious figure at a performance in Alexandria.

Zidane remembers little of his own past or how he came to be where he is. And though he hardly ever wonders about it, the truth may be more important than he or anyone could have dreamed....

Garnet til Alexandros XVII
Age:
Occupation: Princess
Weapon: Rod

Beautiful, young, and heir to the throne of Alexandria, Garnet has been raised with a great sense of duty and responsibility. Yet she longs to discover what it's like to live as a person and not an heir. Thus, she decides to run away from the castle. As she tries to sneak out during a play given by the acting troupe Tantalus, she runs into a young man who announces the group's intention to kidnap her. Relieved, Garnet goes along with their plans.

Unasked questions follow her as she flees into the night with Zidane. What is the significance of the crystal pendant she wears? Why do the mysterious forces known as eidolons lie dormant within her? And what does her mother plan for her, the kingdom, and all of the Mist Continent?

Vivi Ornitier
Age:9
Occupation: Black mage
Weapon: Staff

The second-most important character after Zidane, Vivi is a lonely, shy, somewhat clumsy, nine-year-old black mage. Yet despite his timid demeanor, strong magic responds to Vivi's command. Indeed, it's hinted early on that his powers in the realm of black magic are phenomenal, far stronger than an average black mage.

Similar to Zidane, Vivi doesn't know where he comes from beyond his memories of being adopted by a Qu named Quen. Swept along with Garnet and Zidane as they flee Alexandria Castle, Vivi soon discovers that he is the only black mage who doesn't owe allegiance to Garnet's mother, Queen Brahne.

Where did Vivi come from? Why is he different? And can he save his brethren from the clutches of Alexandria's malevolent Queen?

Adelbert Steiner
Age:
Occupation: Captian of the Knights of Pluto
Weapon: Sword

Captain of the Knights of Pluto, and a loyal retainer of the royal family of Alexandria, Steiner's only aspirations in life are to polish the skills of his wayward men and to protect the lovely Princess Garnet. He remains blind to the increasingly erratic behavior of his sovereign, and when he sees his princess kidnapped by a thief pretending to be an actor, he can conceive of no other path of action but to pursue the thief and rescue her.

But Garnet doesn't want to return to the palace, the thief seems to have a streak of honor, and the young black mage who's been swept along with them has disturbing suspicions about Queen Brahne. Whom to follow? What to believe? Increasingly torn, Steiner follows the trio, clinging to Garnet as his lifeline.

Freya Crescent
Age:
Occupation: Dragon Knight
Weapon: Spear

An old friend of Zidane's, Freya appears when the group makes its way to Lindblum to see Garnet's uncle. She is a Dragon Knight of the kingdom of Burmecia, but has temporarily taken leave to search for her long-lost love. When Zidane tells her of the events taking place in Alexandria that threaten Lindblum and possibly the world, Freya agrees to travel with them to see what she can do. Later, Freya, Vivi, and Zidane travel to Burmecia, which is under attack.

Eiko Carol
Age: 6
Occupation: Summoner
Weapon:

The only summoner left of her tribe, Eiko is a lonely six-year old who keeps company with moogles and steals from the nearby dwarf settlement for food. Zidane and company catch her in the act, and agree to let her stay with them in return for her getting them into the Iifa Tree, the next stage of their quest. She reciprocates by almost immediately forming a mad crush on Zidane, and spends much time plotting to steal him from Garnet.

Eiko shares Garnet's ability to cast curative magic and to summon eidolons, and thus she and the princess have a special kinship beyond Zidane. Though Eiko doesn't remember much of her village before it was destroyed, what memories she does possess may hold the key to Garnet's mysterious powers.

Amarant Coral
Age:
Occupation:bounty hunter
Weapon:

An arrogant bounty hunter hired by Queen Brahne to stop Zidane and company from stopping her, Amarant switches sides when he discovers how strong Zidane is. But his companionship is tempered with contempt, and he seems less interested in helping the group than in waiting for the moment when he can prove himself more powerful than Zidane.

Quina Quen
Age:
Occupation:
Weapon: fork

Quina Quen is a Qu, which is, evidently, a weird sort of food-obsessed creature to be found in marshes around Gaia. S/he joins up with Zidane because, as his/her master points out, "Many foods to experience in big world! Go! Eat!" So Quina tags along for the culinary opportunities offered by all the enemies.

What this means in practical terms is that Quina is a Blue Mage; s/he picks up various skills from literally eating enemies the party encounters. Unlike the Enemy Skill materia from Final Fantasy 7, you only get skills from a (comparatively few) monsters, which you have to successfully consume, instead of just getting hit by the skill.

Kuja
Age:
Occupation:full time evil guy ^-^
Weapon:

The main bad guy of ff9, Kuja, who is hired by the Queen, to provide her with all kinds of magical weapons. But soon, he somewhat takes control, and starts the destruction of the planet. His origin is not known until later in the game, I don't want to spoil, but i think i Can say this; it's got something to do with Zidane.
