Powerlord wins award for Procrastination!
...not really, but it took him 7 days to fix this post
We passed our 3 millionth hit sometime around 8am EST last Thursday. A lot of you are probably
wondering who got the 3 millionth hit. Well, I didn't get any image submissions. That's a good
thing, and here's why...
I changed the counter script to make it go from 2999999 to 3000001. In other words, the counter
never actually displayed 3 million. I did that on purpose, just to see if we would get any fake
submissions. That didn't happen. Yay!
While I was looking through the counter code, I noticed some particular settings that might cause
the counter to undercount the number of hits we get. I'm going to go fix this later on.

3 Million Hits and Counting
3 Million Hits and Counting
We passed our 3 millionth hit sometime around 8am EST today. I wish I could give a long speech right now,
but I really only logged on to email my completed homework to one of my instructors before I
headed off to take a midterm.
Oh, By the Way: Midterms suck!

New Site Layout
New Site Layout
For those that have visited the forums, you might have noticed the new "scheme" that is being used. That scheme, so to say, will soon be implemented into a new layout that has been in the works for the past few months weeks. We are now starting to implement it into a database system and hopefully, it should be operational by mid-year. When in place, it should make file sorting more streamlined and automate some of the jobs the updaters have to do.
Since most visitors to VGMusic seem to be using 4th generation browsers or higher, the design is based with HTML4 compliant browsers in mind. Has been tested with the more popular browsers such as Internet Explorer 4+, Netscape 4.x, and Mozilla browsers based on the Gecko engine (e.g. NS6/Mozilla 0.8). If you wish to have a look, point your browser to http://www.vgmusic.com/database/.
Pretty sure there are still some minor bugs to weed out, so if you by chance find one, please e-mail me or report the problem on the Bug Reports board on the forums.
(Braxus) Yes, I'm the "hidden" staff guy. :P

New-files auto-update still not working, A few suggestions for uploaders
New-files auto-update still not working
According to Powerlord, all of our scripts appear to be working again, with the exception of the auto-update for the the new-files pages. I'm not sure when this will be fixed, but for now, I'll try to refresh the new-files directory manually every now and then.
A few suggestions for uploaders
Before I started working here, I had no idea how time consuming it was to update the archive. Apparently, not many others do, either. I can guarantee though, that if every uploader would just follow these simple rules, along with the upload guidelines, we could update about 50% faster. Here are my suggestions:
- If you are the sequencer, or you know the email address of the sequencer, please put it after their name (ie. Pong64 <pong64@vgmusic.com>).
- Before uploading the file, check the archive to make sure you've typed the name of the game exactly the way that it appears in the archive (if it is already there). For example, if the name of the game appears as Final Fantasy 2, do not put down "Final Fantasy II" or "Final Fantasy 4". Also, if another MIDI file of the song you are uploading exists in the archive, make sure that the names match (unless the existing name is incorrect, in which case, you may want to make a note in the Other Information field, so we can change it).
- Do not put "unknown" or "???" as the composer or the sequencer. We have to go through and remove these, and it's just extra work for us. Also, the person who made the MIDI is not the composer (unless the MIDI was ripped from a PC game). So don't go putting the name of the sequencer in the composer box.
- Do not upload your MIDIs in a zip file, unless they are for the PC section (which isn't even online right now, anyway). It's extremely time consuming for us to deal with them, and I personally tend to add them to the archive last.
- Give your MIDI an original filename. If you name it battle.mid, chances are there's going to be another one with the sane name in the particular section it belongs in, which means we have to change your filename. If we don't notice it, often times files are overwritten.
- Read the terms of services in the upload section.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Sorry if I seem a little crabby. ;P Anyway, by following these simple suggestions, you can make our job a lot easier, and I can assure you that the archive will be updated more frequently.

CGI Problems - Forbidden Errors (This means no upload!)
CGI Problems - Forbidden Errors (This means no upload!)
I got somewhere around 80 messages telling me of Forbidden errors around the site since Telefragged moved us
over to it's primary server. It turns out that our CGI permissions vanished during the move, and none of our
CGI scripts are operating, with the exception of the forums which are hosted on a different server.
We are trying to get this problem fixed as soon as possible.
Tip: If you're trying to use the redirect, the names of the various indices in each music directory are:
- A-Z - index.html
- A-F - index-af.html
- G-R - index-gr.html
- S-Z - index-sz.html
- Classic - index-classic.html

PC Section removed
PC Section removed
The PC section is down until further notice for copyright reasons. I plan to look
at everything we had available and remove everything that was ripped directly from a game.
All PC files in new-files will be moved to my PC when I have time later this week, and
will undergo the same treatment that the files currently in the PC section are undergoing.
The Personal Computer upload option has been removed as well, as no furthur PC files will be
accepted until we get everything straightened out.

Happy Valentines Day!
Happy Valentines Day!
Today marks the first event that is taking in place in the VGRPG universe:
the wedding of Brooke (DarkBrooke) to DarkLizy at 7:30pm-8:30pm EST in the #paladin channel
on irc.esper.net. It's going to start any time now, so if you are going to be present, hurry!
If you don't have an IRC client, use the java one for #paladin.
In the poll we had on our forums, Eyes on Me was the most popular choice of love songs in a video game.
As a special bonus, we have a *limited time only* download of the Eyes on Me MP3.
The server it is on has a user limit, so if you can't get it when you first try, wait a minute (or several) and try again.

Location change
Location change
The location of the Playstation section has changed to reflect
Sony's new name for it (PS1). If you have any bookmarks to music at it's old location it is
recommended that you change it, because we will only be redirecting the psx directory for 4 weeks.

The Site is still alive, I now have DSL
The site is still alive
The staff memebers are still here, in between work, school, playing video games and
other general life stuff that happens in real life. (Honest!) Many people including
myself Braxus and Powerlord could not access the site for some time yesterday.
Everything is fine now though. Seems like a Router went down somewhere in the world
of cyberspace. Seems like it went Peachy.
I now have DSL
I now have DSL so I can work on the site much easier now. I just need more time to
do stuff now in between studies and other things, such as meeting people who visit VGMusic
in real life, even though that doesn't happen often. Also, my computer had a new lease of life
over Christmas (seems ages ago now) with a new 800MHz processor and now 224MB of RAM with a GE Force 2,
so I can handle stuff even better now (like showing off)
PS. Reverse Sigma is here at my house right now, and as a result has influenced what is in my post.
If you have ever met anyone from VGMusic like I have feel free to share it in the General Message Board or IRC chatroom.
I'd be interested to see what happened.
