Pull up a chair, sit and make the best friends you’ve ever had, all through the internet!  This is a group of people who talk about getting fit, the obstacles we encounter and how to overcome them, as well as anything interesting that comes up!  Welcome to iVillage.com!

I’m Heather, one of the Community Leaders for Getting Fit In Your 20s . Emily and I wanted to welcome you and give you some tips and information about our board, so we can make your experience with us as enjoyable as possible.

What is a Community Leader?  A CL is a person who welcomes new members to the board, keeps the conversation flowing, and has agreed to follow the Terms of Service.

Our message boards have folders.  These folders are like smaller message boards within the message board. You will see that there are eight folders on our board.

They are:

Life in Our 20s--this is where you can post a general “Hi, how are you?” or update us about you. Or, perhaps you have a question you would like to ask or a discussion you would like to start.

Journal--this is where you can start an online journal.  Each thread is started by one person, and that consists of your journal. Feel free to reply to other journals, or just keep to yours!

Healthy Meal Ideas--This is the folder where we post healthy snack ideas, meal ideas, or information on any foods or snacks that we want to share

Post and Conquer - Occasionaly we have challenges to help keep us on track and motivated.  Under this folder we post our specific challenges, as well as track our current challenges!  We also post the weekly weigh-ins here too!

Girl Talk—A place where can talk about anything that you need to!

Mind / Body Connection —Getting fit is about more than just losing weight.  Check this folder for motivational quotes, tips for taking care of you, and anything related to being healthy beyond our weight!

Netiquette:
Netiquette is a term to describe the proper behavior for posting on the message boards. Here are a few tips:

  • Avoid writing e-mail messages or posting in newsgroups using all caps.

IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE SHOUTING!

  • Remember that anything you post to our message board is public. You never know who's reading it, or who may copy it and spread it around. Don’t put your real name, address, phone number, etc. in your messages.

In addition, here is an excellent website for further information on netiquette:

To help you become familiar with our board format, here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about posting on message boards for you first timers:

Q: What's with all the LOL's and ROTFL's?
A: Those are abbreviations. For example, LOL is "laughing out loud" and ROTFL is "rolling on the floor laughing". There are tons of abbreviations on the Internet, and if you hang around long enough, you'll learn most of them. If you can't wait, here is a list of some of the more common ones:
