This is a local wild herbacious plant that is also planted as a green leafy vegetable. The locals recognise two kinds of kangkong. the water kangkong and the white kangkong. The water kangkong creeps over the surface of water in pond sides and ditches using its hollow air-filled stems as floats. White kangkong is usually cultivated for market purposes and is not given the opportunity to creep as they are usually harvested at the age of six weeks. The kangkong belongs to the same family as the Morning Glory.
