Short Notes (Nota Ringkas)


A fast growing, early flowering variety producing tender, tasty stems with medium green leaves. Plants stand about 30-40 cm tall. First harvest is approximately 30-35 days after sowing. Various variety were bred as a cutting variety for multiple harvests. They are from the same genus as the cabbages (Brassica) but different species. Three scientific names are frequently used to decsribe them. namely:-
Brassica chinensis var. parachinensis
Brassica campestris var. parachinensis
Brassica parachinensis
This have often caused some confussion because there are many varieties of this plant too.
Two other common varieties are planted and harvested as non flowering varieties, the "White stem choy sam" and the "green stem choy sam".
