The Czech bluegrass band Forte was formed in March 1999 as the result of Martin Kohout’s effort to put together a band which would appeal to a wide audience based in the bluegrass music tradition. He is a respected guitar player and vocalist involved in various other music projects. His latest being the participation in the newest album of one of the most popular Czech country bands Fesaci.
Martin Kohout (23) has surrounded himself with experienced musicians who draw from diverse backgrounds - banjo player Simon Sternberg (25), Tomas Ludvicek (24) on mandolin and the bass player Jirka Masek (21).
Simon has an excelent banjo technique influenced by players such as Bela Fleck and Scott Vestal. He is a very good guitar player too. He played with a singer Bobby Houda in his blues band. Currently, he works as a music teacher and he plays with the bar band Drobky. His former name was Petr Seidl.
Tomas is attending singing lessons at the Jaroslav Jezek Conservatory in Prague. He sings with a few rock and funky bands. He played with Martin in the bluegrass band Torzo, which recorded the album „Spolu pujdem dal" in May 1997.
Jirka is a versatile bass player. He was a member of some local folk and rock bands. In 1997 he joined the popular folk band Auris.
Forte brings the brand new original material included on their first demo recording which was released one month after the band started, in April 1999. The main goal of these young musicians is to make music for people who would like it independent of what is their favorite music style.
