WHY SOME CHRISTIANS ARE SICK

Some reasons why some Christians are sick:

(Please note: not every reason will apply to every person.).

1. Some are not really Christians

Being a (paper) member of a church, is not the same as being a member of the Church universal! A person needs believe and to give their life over to Jesus Christ, to be a true Christian.

Cf. John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath                        not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Ps 80:19 Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Ac 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Ac 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house

Ro 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Ro 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Ro 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

2. Sin in the Body.

We see time after time, in the Bible. That sickness and sin, go hand in hand.

(JOH 5:14) Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. (KJV)

(JAM 5:15) And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. (KJV)

(JAM 5:16) Confess {your} faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (KJV)

The Communion of Christ is be taken with repentance!

Cf. 1 Cor. 11: 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

3. Sickness as Discipline cf.1 Cor.11:30-32.

(1CO 11:29) For he that eateth and drinketh, eateth and drinketh judgment unto himself, if he discern not the body. (ASV)

(1CO 11:30) For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep. (ASV)

(1CO 11:31) But if we discerned ourselves, we should not be judged. (ASV)

(1CO 11:32) But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. (ASV)

God is full of mercy, and ready to forgive. After we repent and are forgiven, there is no need for the discipline to continue! Cf.

16 ¶ Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;

17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

4. Sickness as Judgment

(DEU 29:15) But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day, that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee. (ASV)

(DEU 29:16) Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. (ASV)

(DEU 29:21) Jehovah will make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest in to possess it. (ASV)

(DEU 28:35) Jehovah will smite thee with the boil of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scurvy, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed. (ASV)

Again, the cure? Repent and ask for healing!

5. Hurting other members of the Body (the Church).

To hurt another member, of the Body, is to hurt ourselves. For the Church is one Body, in Christ.

(1CO 10:16) The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ? (ASV)

(1CO 10:17) seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we are all partake of the one bread. (ASV)

(1CO 10:24) Let no man seek his own, but {each} his neighbor's {good}. (ASV)

(1CO 12:30) And whether one member suffereth, all the members suffer with it; or {one} member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. (ASV)

"When a member causes another member to suffer, then the offending member will suffer also.(Verses 12-26.)"

Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Cf. This with Deu.28.

See also. Matt. 23: 23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

9. Fear in their hearts cf Job 3:25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. Heb. 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Remember, it is the prayer of faith that heals.
