Some of the things that the Bible has to say about Anger! By John Chopores Many times, the angry person cannot or will not give a reason for his anger. Cf. Ge 4:6 ¶ So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? He is not willing to listen to logic and exercise self-control. Cf. Gen. 4:7 "If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it." Will take vengeance, and then try to cover-up his sin. Cf. Ge 4:8 ¶ Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. 9 ¶ Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?" Uncontrolled anger,
can cause much family trouble; later in life. In fact, such anger can be a
curse. Cf. Ge 49:7 Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; And
their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob And scatter them in When it is time to be angry; we are not to go too far. Cf. 2Ch 28:9 But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded; and he went out before the army that came to Samaria, and said to them: "Look, because the LORD God of your fathers was angry with Judah, He has delivered them into your hand; but you have killed them in a rage that reaches up to heaven. Being angry too often can kill you! Cf. Job 5:2 For wrath kills a foolish man, And envy slays a simple one. Ps 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret-it
only causes harm. Angry can even make one wish, for his own death. Cf. Jon 4:9 Then God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?" And he said, "It is right for me to be angry, even to death!" Jealousy is a cause
of much anger; and violence. Cf. Pr Do not be quick to
use violence; for that is the fool’s way. Cf. Pr Ec 7:9 Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools. Some times, staying calm and not speaking in your anger can help the Situation. It may even, help calm down the other person. Cf. Pr 15:1 ¶ A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. Anger has a tendency
to build on itself: so take some time to cool down. Cf. Pr Why not be the better
person, and overlook the wrong? Cf. Pr We are to not hang
out with a person, who lets anger rule his life. Cf. Pr 25 Lest you learn
his ways And set a snare for your soul. There are times, when
a person does not have a right to be angry! Cf. Mt Outbursts of anger
are a clear sign that a person is not walking by the Holy Spirit. Cf. 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, Do not hold on to
your anger forever. Cf. Eph Anger can get in the way, of our prayers. 1Ti 2:8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; [RSV] A church leader; must be slow-tempered. Tit 1:7 For a Presiding-Officer, as God's steward, ought to be a man of irreproachable character; not self-willed or quick-tempered, nor addicted to drink or to brawling or to questionable money-making. [TCNT] The main reason
being, that our anger is not in line with God’s righteousness. Cf. Jas 20 for the anger
of man does not work the righteousness of God. [RSV] Please note that all Bible verses are from the New King
James Version; unless otherwise noted.
