Lord of the Rings:
The Two Towers

Boromir dies upon Amon Hen and Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli set his body afloat down the Andiun. The three set out across the north-east plains of Rohan after the orc host and Merry and Pippin.
Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli meet Eomer son of Eomund and nephew of Theoden (King of Rohan). They learn that Eomer's host has destroyed and burned a band of orcs near the edge of Fangorn Forest. Eomer gives them horses and the three ride to the battle scene. They discover nothing and camp at the southern edge of Fangorn where they are visited by a mysterious old man (Saruman?) who scares their horses away.
Meanwhile, Pippin and Merry, after many hard days of captivity and travel with the orcs, manage to escape while Eomer's host is attacking the orc band. Carried off by Grishnakh the orc, who is killed trying to escape, Merry and Pippin flee into Fangorn Forest where they meet Treebeard, who takes them to his "house" of Wellinghall at the feet of Methedras. Treebeard and Merry and Pippin go to the Entmoot (at the Derndingle) and Merry and Pippin stay with Quickbeam until the council of Ents finishes. The Ents (along with Merry and Pippin) then march over the mountainous pass connecting south-western Fangorn with Nan Curunir (The Valley of Saruman).
Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli find signs of Merry and Pippin's escape from the orc host near the edge of Fangorn. They enter into the forest and meet Gandalf the White at the place where Merry and Pippin met Treebeard two days earlier. Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli ride (their horses returned with Shadowfax) to Edoras and Gandalf heals Theoden in the hall of Meduseld. Wormtoungue is banished and heads to Isengard. Eowyn (sister of Eomer, daughter of Eomund, and neice of Theoden) is charged by Theoden to lead the people to Dunharrow and await his coming. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, Theoden, Eomer and their men set out to Helm's Deep.
The company is met by a messenger near the mouth of the Deeping Coomb and told that the Second Battle at the Fords of Isen has gone ill for Erkenbrand and his men (Theodred, son of Theoden, was slain in the first battle only a few days earlier). The men inhabit the Burg and the deeping wall at Helm' Deep and are attacked by a host of least 10,000 of Saruman's Uruk-Hai, orcs and wolves in addition to various men of Dunland in alliance with Saruman. The defending forces of the Deep included about 1000 cavalry from Edoras under Theoden and Eomer, 1000 infantry already at Helm's Deep under Gambling the Old, 1000 infantry arriving later from the Fords of Isen under Erkenbrand, and hundreds of Ents (Huorns). The wall and the gates are attacked and battered repeatedly before a 2nd attempt by the orcs to break through the wall under the culvert proves successful. At the same time, orcs scale the wall and the defending host is divided into two parts, one of which is pushed further back into the Deep (Gimli, Eomer) and the other forced to retreat into the Burg (Aragorn and Legolas, Theoden). Theoden, Aragorn, Legolas and the remainder of the company in the Burg ride forth in attack against the orcs outside on the dike, forcing them backward. Gandalf and Erkenbrand appear at the west ridge and together they and Theoden's host corner the Dunlendings and force the orcs into the wood of Huorns just beyond the dike. The men in the Deep defeat the invading forces and Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Theoden, Eomer and selected men ride to Isengard.
The host crosses the Fords of Isen, seeing the remains of the Battle there. They come to Isengard where they meet Merry and Pippin at the gates of the ruins of Isengard.
Gandalf, Theoden, and Eomer meet with Treebeard while Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin rest and eat in the guard room. Merry and Pippin tell the rest about their journey and the attack of the Ents on Isengard.
All of the company gather at the base of the Tower of Orthanc in the center of the ring of Isengard where Gandalf speaks with Saruman. Saruman tries to convince Theoden to remain an ally of Isengard (unsuccessfully). Gandalf gives Saruman a second chance if he will surrender the key of Othanc. Saruman refuses and Gandalf breaks Saruman's staff and banishes him from the order. Wormtoungue unknowingly hurls the Pilantiri stone from high in the tower in an effort to injure the company. Pippin picks it up and Gandalf keeps it. The company leaves Isengard for Helm's Deep.
On the road out of Isengard, during the night, Pippin takes the Pilantiri from Gandalf (while Gandalf is asleep), desiring a second look. He is confronted by Sauron, who does not yet know about the ruin of Isengard. Pippin emerges okay from the Pilantiri viewing and is forgiven by Gandalf, who gives the stone to Aragorn for safe-keeping. A Nazgul suddenly flies over the company and Gandalf tells everyone to get moving immediately. He heads directly for Minas Tirith with Pippin while the rest head for Helm's Deep.
Meanwhile...
Frodo and Sam journey through the rocky Emyn Muil with Gollum secretly tracking them. Frodo and Sam catch Gollum off his guard, tie him up and make him swear by his precious to be their faithful guide.
The three enter the Dead Marshes.
They arrive at the Morannon (Black Gate). Finding that an attempt to enter there is useless, Gollum convinces them to head south alongside the Ephel Duath until they reach the crossroads, then take a secret passage he knows about.
The three travel down through Ithilien and camp, eating stewed rabbit. They meat Faramir and company.
Frodo is questioned by Faramir. Frodo and Sam are taken (willingly) to Henneth Annun, the secret hiding place of Faramir and company. There they receive food and sleep and Sam accidently reveals that they are carrying the Ring. Faramir, however, does not desire it.
Faramir and men spy Gollum by the pool and intend to kill him for trespassing. Frodo objects and reluctantly lures Gollum into Faramir's captivity. Faramir agrees to let Gollum go with Sam and Frodo. They depart.
Gollum, Frodo and Sam head southwards towards the crossroads.
They enter the Morgul Vale and take a path through a gap in the cliffside that runs alongside the main road leading into the vale. There they witness the Nazgul King leading an army out of the vale and across the bridge. The Nazgul King senses a presence upon the surrounding cliffs and gives orders for an orc party to patrol the area. Frodo, Sam and Gollum continue on, climbing two stairs before resting.
They enter Shelob's lair where Gollum deserts Frodo and Sam. They encounter Shelob but Frodo wards her off with the Phial of Galadriel. Frodo hews away at the mass of cobwebs barring the exit to the tunnel and they escape into the open. Shelob exits through a nearby tunnel and goes after Frodo while Sam is attacking from behind by Gollum. Sam fights with Gollum, scaring him off and runs after Shelob, who has already spun Frodo in a bundle of web. Sam attacks Shelob, slicing off part of her leg, blinding her in one eye, and positions himself underneath Shelob such that she unwittingly punctures her abdomen on Sam's sword (Sting). Sam wards the injured Shelob off with the Phial. Thinking Frodo dead, he takes the Ring to continue the mission. An orc band traps him on the cliffside from front and back and forces him to put the ring on. The orcs take Frodo's body back through Shelob's lair, and out a secret tunnel into the base of the Tower of Cirith Ungol. Sam follows, invisible by the Ring, but is locked out by the gates.
