From the Floating Log at Frogmorton

Lonely Mountain High (John Denver)

He was born in the April of his fiftieth year, leaving home for a place he'd never been before.
He left his hat behind him, you might say he was born again;
All 'cause Gandalf left a mark upon his door.
When he first came to the mountains, he and his friends were captured by goblins in a cave.
But Gandalf got clean away and so it came out all right.
He won Gollum's game, he even found the Ring.

At Erebor, the Lonely Mountain high, I've seen Smaug raining fire from the sky.
Away ere break of day, to claim long-forgotten gold.
Lonely Mountain high, near the Long Lake, Lonely Mountain high.

He climbed the Misty Mountains, he met wicked Wargs below;
He met a bear-man with talking animals.
And they say he stole the Arkenstone and he tried to stop a war,
And he lost a friend, but kept the memory.
They all left the path in Mirkwood, but he got them out again, stuffed in barrels floating down the stream.
He got them out alive (barely), though they were soaked and bruised,
To Esgaroth, the town on the Long Lake.

By Erebor, the Lonely Mountain high, I've seen Smaug raining fire from the sky.
You can talk to Smaug and listen to the sarcastic reply.
Lonely Mountain high, near the Long Lake, Lonely Mountain high.

Now he's got plenty of money, but his home is up for sale,
And Lobelia took off with some of his spoons.
He's lost his reputation and gained a sense of adventure,
Hangs out with Elves, plays host to traveling Dwarves.

And Erebor, the Lonely Mountain high, I've seen Smaug raining fire from the sky.
He'd be one dead burglar if he'd never seen an eagle fly,
Lonely Mountain high, Erebor the Lonely Mountain high, I've seen Smaug raining fire from the sky.
Pipe-weed around the campfire and everybody's high
Lonely Mountain high, near the Long Lake, Lonely Mountain high.
