The small room was packed with villagers of Duppag and the neighboring areas -- the women taking center stage while the men were trying to fit into all the possible crevices of the room. The children were spread across the floor, excitement in their eyes. On that dark night, in that crowded room, everyone wanted to listen to the women villagers recount their experiences of the Cordillera people's victorious struggle against the Chico River dam.

In many stories of courage, we always hear about men fighting bravely. But the struggles of peoples have not always been won by the men alone.

This is a story of courage of women and children who fought bravely for their people. This is a story not often told.
