There are many rare and wonderful Pokemon in the game, but even the most experienced trainer can miss a few. Below are the rarest Pokemon, and where to find them. Some you'll need to trade for, others will need to be evolved with special Stones.

Pokemon You Can Find

Snorlax  The 'Sleeping Pokemon' found on Routes 12 and 16 can be woken up with the Pokeflute, but you'll have to try hard to capture it. Try using an Ultra Ball if you have one.


Porygon  It can be purchased for 6500[Blue] or 9999[Red] Game Corner Tokens, depending on which version of the game you have.


Aerodactyl  First, get the Old Amber from the Cerulean Museum Lab (which you gain access by cutting a bush to the northeast. Then, deliver the Old Amber to Cinnabar Island South Lab.


Omanyte or Kabuto  You must choose between the Helix or Dome Fossil before you leave Mt. Moon. You can only collect one fossil per game, so you'll have to trade for the other.


Lapras  After you defeat Gary in Silph Co. speak to a nearby employee who will give you Lapras


Eevee  Go in the back way of Celadon Mansion and talk to the guy at the top.


Articuno  Found in the depths of Seafoam Island
Zapdos  Last spotted inside the Power Plant


Moltres  Waiting on Victory Road

Pokemon You Must Trade For With Game Characters
Jynx  You can find the strange Jynx by trading a Polywhirl in Cerulean City


Mr. Mime  The elusive Mr. Mime can be found by trading an Abra in a house south of the Route 2 entrance to Diglett's Tunnel.


Farfetch'd  This cute duck can be obtained by trading in a small Spearow to a boy in Virmillion City.


Lickitung  Trade a Slowbro for a Lickitung in one of the observing towers near Cycling Road.

Alakazam Using the Game Link, trade in your Kadabra with another player. When the other player gets Kadabra it will evolve into an Alakazam. Trade again to get it back.


Golem  Using the Game Link, trade in your Graveler with another player. When the other player gets Graveler it will evolve into an Golem. Trade again to get it back.


Machamp  Using the Game Link, trade in your Machoke with another player. When the other player gets Machoke it will evolve into a Machamp. Trade again to get it back.


Gengar  Using the Game Link, trade in your Haunter with another player. When the other player gets Haunter it will evolve into a Gengar. Trade again to get it back.
