1st NZ series

The 1st series was released in 1988, after the success of the Garbage Pail Kids in the U.S. and in the U.K. The NZ 1st series is a reproduction of the U.K. 1st series, therefore, the series is almost identical except for the GG title; job code of 4-490-0-9. The New Zealand 1st series set is different from the Australia set because it has far less back variations, does not have a banner-style header, and has thirteen name changes. The 1st NZ box has the 'Topps' logo on it, rather than the 'Regina' logo, like the 1st AU box. The remaining three sets (2nd, 3rd, and 4th) are the same for New Zealand and Australia, except for some packaging differences. The U.K. first series, like the U.K. 6th series which was test released in NZ, is believed to have been used in the initial release of the NZ 1st series, the U.K. GPK series can be found in NZ Garbage Gang packs.

1. Cards 12a "Furry FRANCES" and "Furry FRAN" (U.S.) and 12b "Hairy MARY" have A Red Header, unlike the U.S. and U.K. versions that have a pink header.

2. Cards 18a "Cranky FRANKIE" and 18b "Bad BOB/Bad BRAD(U.S.)" have a Red GPK Header With a Yellow Surrounding, like the U.S., France, and U.K. versions, but unlike the white surrounding of the AU version.

3. The Old Style Header is used, like the one for the U.K. Garbage Pail Kids and the U.S. 1st – 9^th series GPK’s. From the header, one can tell that "The Garbage Gang" was placed within the old "Garbage Pail Kids" logo, a reproduction from the U.K. 1st series where you can see the indentations where the capitol "G", "P", and "K" would have been in the old title.

4. There are 13 Name Changes compared to the U.S. cards, which are the same as the 13 name changes of the U.K. 1st series. Since the NZ set is a direct reproduction of the 1st U.K. card set.
