I will be profiling a different fantasy author on the first of every month. These biographies will eventully be put in the Authors Info part of the Articles section of Geek World, but not until they've had their month-long turn in the spotlight here as the Feature Author!
Mercedes Lackey is the Feature Author for the month of August!
I have to admit, one of my new favorite authors is Mercedes Lackey. I have so far only read two of her novels, and am soon going to be starting on a third. I love the way she writes; the first time I picked up one of her books, she had me hooked by the end of the first paragraph. I love how human and normal her characters are. I love how detailed the descriptions are...and yet how they leave things to the imagination as well. This is a woman who knows how to write and write well, a woman who has mastered the art of storytelling through her fiction and her songs.
Biography: Mercedes Lackey was born on June 24, 1950 in Chicago, IL. She lived a normal childhood and graduated from Perdue University in 1972. During the 1970s, she worked as a artist's model, and then went into computer programming, ending up with American Airlines in Tulsa, Oaklahoma. Aside from writing fantasy, she has written over fifty songs for Firebird Arts & Music, a recording company that specializes in science fiction folk music. Her fantasy novels are set in an other-world, semi-medieval atmosphere, and have a way of getting the reader's attention from the very start.
Bibliography: Below there is a list of all books to date written by Mercedes Lackey. Below that, you will find up-coming books in a list of their own. The lists are in order from publication date, which is the way Ms Lackey suggests they be read, even though that is not necessarily the same as the historical order, especially for the Valdemar books.
