Welcome to the Home Page of Mark and Debbie Burr.
We live in the country near Forest Ontario Canada. We have 4 sons and 1 daughter and when not working or
spending time with the kids we are amateur genealogists. Mark has always been interested in his family tree and Debbie
has become an avid researcher, helping Mark find his roots. By chance we found out that on Mark's maternal side there
were a lot of United Empire Loyalists. This has sent us on a deeper search as we prove Mark's loyalist descent. In
January 1998 Mark received his first loyalist certificate as the descendent of John Blackburn UE. Our research is
primarily in North America, however several family lines in the UK have us searching there as well. The internet has
provided us with lots of information and several new relatives and many new friends.
We are researching the Alger family of Connecticut, New York and Ontario, Canada; the Post family of New
York, New Jersey and Canada; the Quackenbush family line which came from New York to Canada; the Bowers family
who came to Kent County Ontario from England circa 1870; the Burr family who came to Lambton County Ontario
from England, via Scugog Island Ontario;the Merritt family who came to Kent County from Nova Scotia and New
York before that; the Blackburn family of Pennsylvania and Kent County, Ontario; the Westcott family who were
original settlers of Rhode Island and some of whom were loyalists moved to Nova Scotia and eventually to Ontario; and
the Gilliland family of Ontario. We would also like to research the Mahoney (Mathany) family of Ireland and Ontario if
we could find them!! These are the majority of Mark's ancestors although there are some Campbell's and Gray's we
could search for if we got bored. As for Debbie's family lines, that is a more difficult task. Debbie's ancestors are all Jews
from Eastern Europe so the information is scarce. So at present we are seeking information about the relatives who
came to North America. These names include Adler, Slutsky, Kopstein, and Kushner for starters.
Anyway, welcome to our page. We are glad you stopped by. Let us know if we can help you in your own
searches and happy hunting.
