What is Geofront?

Geofront is a group of dedicated people who volunteer their time in order to turn out the best quality fansubs possible. Most of our effort goes to churning out 2+ episodes per week for the local club.

What does the name Geofront mean?

It's a secret.

I emailed you a long time ago, but I never got a reply...

Well, we try our best to answer all emails, but there are several possibilities on why we didn't answer your email:

1. Your answer is on this FAQ page.

2. We were just really busy, sorry!

3. Did you use any of the following phrases in your email?

"Do you sell tapes?"
"Can I buy tapes from you?"
"I'll pay anything for [insert anime title here]."

Can I sponsor one of Geofront's projects?

Sorry, we don't have a sponsoring program. However, if you'd like to make a donation, please email us. But please keep in mind that a donation is voluntary and that we won't treat anyone specially because of a donation.

How can I donate to Geofront?

Just email us. Donations are always welcome. :) (The donation doesn't have to be monetary, we once got a cool donation of a flower basket packed along with 24 cans of Mountain Dew. We aren't kidding. :)

Will Geofront take requests on what shows to subtitle?

We are always open to suggestions, but in the end, we only subtitle what we want to work on.

What's going to be in the Archive?

We plan to have translations of songs and manga. The show descriptions will also be in the Archive.

Does Geofront release scripts?

We put a lot of time and effort into these scripts. We do not want to risk releasing them and having them changed without our knowledge. So no, we do not give out scripts.

Can I have your script if I promise I won't give your scripts to anyone else?

Well, here's a story. Once upon a time, there was a subtitler who gave out some scripts to several people for their private use. A few years later, this subtitler decided that he didn't want his work to be distributed anymore. So no more new masters of this anime were made. But somehow, the scripts got out. In the past two years, at least three other subtitling groups planned to subtitle this anime using his scripts without his consent. (Not to mention that another subtitle group took his script and credited the work to themselves.) All of them did stop when they were asked not to, but the fact the scripts spread to other hands remains. This is why we will not give out out scripts even for private use.

Is Geofront interested in joint projects?

Depends. Email us if you're really serious about it. But joint projects doesn't mean we provide scripts and you subtitle them off your LDs and computer for release. It means you take a share of the episodes.

Can I become a distributor for Geofront?

At the moment, we aren't looking for any new distributors. If we ever do want more distributors, it will be posted in the announcement section.

When is [insert anime title here] going to be released?

That depends on a lot of factors. Some anime just take a lot longer to subtitle. (For example, Child's Toy.) We don't even know exactly when we will release something until the week we do. Any new releases will be posted in the announcement section.

Does Geofront have a release schedule?

No, we release tapes when we have the time for it. We try not to go for too many months without releasing anything.

What does "unreleased" mean in the Completed Project page?

Because Geofront subtitles mostly for the local club, we usually don't have the time to put the finishing touches on a tape for release. And because we're quality freaks, we won't release a tape until we've put the finishing touches on our work, like a final spelling and grammar check, correcting minor timing errors, various tweaks here and there, etc.

What if I want tapes from the "Not for release" or "Pulled from distribution"?

There's nothing you can do. Those tapes have been pulled from distribution or have never been released because those shows became commercial. Geofront fully supports the commercial industry and will not distribute anything that has become commercial.

What do those things mean next to the tapes on the Current Projects page?

They are Mountain Dew cans. They are a very general indication of how far a certain tape is until completion. Specific numbers of cans do not indicate that any specific tasks were completed. Certain shows have more dense rows of cans because they require more work (such as Child's Toy) than other more ordinary shows.

Why hasn't Geofront released anything new in a long time?

Because the local club that we support is university affiliated. During the semester, it's all we can do to keep churning out episodes for their showings. Once summer hits, we usually have more time to finalize tapes for release.

Is Geofront going to finish Child's Toy?

We hope to. It will take us a lot of time, but currently, that is our goal.
