Junior Presentation Evening |
The Annual Junior Presentation Evening was opened by the Club Chairman, Bob Jackson, who welcomed special guest Paul Collingwood, the England and Durham player, along with all Junior players and parents. Bob congratulated Paul on his recent
successes with England, and wished him all the best for his forthcoming trip
to India as part of the current England one-day squad. Bob thanked the team coaches, Gary Christie
(Under 13 and Under 18) and Ray Foster (Under 15). Bob also mentioned that although no Junior
team won a Championship Trophy in 2001, it was reassuring to see that Juniors
filled into the 1stXI and 2ndXI squads, often at very short notice, and he
thanked Paul Lumley and Stephen Smith for their contributions to the 1stXI
success at winning the Fosters Trophy. The Junior Sportsman award went to the distinguished
Stephen Smith, so did a special award for knocking two centuries in the
season. Stephen is a quality player, who will no doubt make his mark in 2002
with both bat and ball. The Most Improved Junior award went to Tom
Forster, a player learning all the time and will no doubt be one of our top
players in years to come. Finally, three presentations were made to the
3 Team Managers. Bob Jackson presented a gift from the Under 18’s to Gary
Christie, while Ray Foster was given a prize from Stephen Smith, and Tom
Foster thanked Ron and Gary Christie for their services to the Under 13’s
with a bottle of wine from the Juniors. The night was completed with a buffet and watching the
Chelsea v Newcastle football scores on Teletext…as you do. |
