DECLARATION of ADIL ( The Movement for Social Justice)

Having witnessed personally the intensity and resolve in the people's demands for major changes in this country in order to establish a civil society, and; with the intention of defending the integrity, dignity and principles of our nation, and;

with the intention of establishing a Malaysian nation that is stable, peaceful and harmonious, and;

in the belief that all these aims can only be achieved through justice;
I hereby declare that:

an organisation called PERGERAKAN KEADILAN SOSIAL (MOVEMENT FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE), with its acronym "ADIL", is now formed in response to the people's demands for justice.

ADIL will seek immediate registration under the provisions of the Societies Act 1966 (amended 1984).

ADIL shall be a vehicle for unifying each and every group that yearns for political, economic and social change and reform in line with the principles of the constitution and the laws of the land.

ADIL shall be a movement committed to peaceful methods of change rejecting all forms of violence.

ADIL rejects all outdated laws inherited from the former colonial power that limit justice, challenge political and economic equilibrium, and transgress basic human rights.

ADIL shall struggle for the establishment of a judicial system that is both independent and transparent.

ADIL shall defend a democratic system based on the principle of the rule of law.

ADIL shall strive to give expression to the power of the people through democratic means.

ADIL shall practise the principles of responsibility, transparency, taking into account the aspirations of the masses while upholding the trust of the people.

Inspired by these ideals, I take great pleasure in announcing the objectives of ADIL:

To honour the dignity of human being carrying all aspects of social and national administration.

To ensure that every citizen enjoys real and meaningful freedom.

To ensure that justice is enjoyed by every group, community and stratum within the society.

To establish legal and judicial institutions that are independent, transparent and embody integrity.

To strengthen a Malaysian national identity and create a Malaysian culture that is dynamic and progressive.

To strengthen further the tradition of goodwill, understanding and cooperation among the various communities.

In the early stages, ADIL shall focus its activities in the following areas:

To enhance the people's awareness and commitment in areas such as social reform, basic human rights, the rights of the citizen and the rule of law.

To defend the rights and security of every individual or group that is currently being victimised through practices that are in violation of the principles of justice.

To collect information and document specific cases involving the violation of the law.

To coordinate the efforts of the various groups involved in the defense and protection of those victimised under various laws.

To enhance the people's awareness and understanding of current issues, be it at the local, national or international levels.

To strive to ensure that national wealth is fairly distributed, so that economic opportunities are shared in a just manner and the economic crisis resolved in the interest of the people.

To defend the dignity of the nation; strengthen the practice of Islam as a way of life and encouraging adherence to religious principles amongst people of other faiths while ensuring that universal moral and ethical values are observed; enhance the role of the national language, and at the same time protect the use of other languages as enshrined in Malaysian Constitution.

ADIL is a national-level organisation, and as such shall be establishing its branches all over the nation.

ADIL shall open its doors to all individuals who share its objectives and ideals.

ADIL encourages all individuals above the age of 18, irrespective of their ethnic origins and religious beliefs, to apply for membership.

ADIL hereby invites people from all categories in society, including the ulama and other religious leaders, academicians, professionals, politicians, NGO activists, cultural activists and artistes, corporate leaders, workers, government officers, small business operators, hawkers, peasants, fishermen, youths, homemaker, and others, to join ADIL.

We call on the government to register ADIL without undue delay and without using narrow political reasoning and arguments in order to deny the people's right to organise.

We also call upon the government to stop conducting arrests under the ISA and to refrain from using inhuman methods of intimidation and surveillance against those demanding reform, justice and human rights.

We pray to God for His Blessings and Guidance, and for His help in achieving the objectives of establishing PERGERAKAN KEADILAN SOSIAL (ADIL).
