Debbi only took one drumlesson, in which she remembered how to hold the sticks. Her drumming teacher put to much attention to reading notes than on the actual drumming, according to Debbi. She learned the rest by watching others. She didn't do that bad...
Together with Vicki she grounded The Bangs in 1980. She loved to sing as well, but always was the Bangle who sung the less on the albums. However, she has two singles on which she sings lead. She has a very creamy voice which in absolute top condition on the single "Be with you".
It's said that Debbi's jalousy towards Susanna was one of the reasons the Bangles split up in 1989. The intresting fact I see in this is, that Debbi could have suffered from "the drummer syndrome". She always had to sit back begind the drums and saw the others rock and jump around. It's also said that Debbi wanted that the video for "Eternal Flame" had to be re-cut, because she thought that Susanna was shown in too much; and she too little. But the most likely reason is that 10 years of Bangles was just enough for her, as well as for the rest of the band. Typical it is that it is Debbi and Susanna working together on new material!
During the last year of the Bangles, she got married to the band's production manager Steve, and she still is, celebrating their 10th anneversary in june 1999. Only Vicki was present from the Bangles at the wedding, which was good for rumours... She also has a little boy called Brian born 1997. After the split up, she got into a band called "Kindred Spirit", who aren't doing anything at the moment, because the members live far away from eachother. She's involved in a prohect ca;;ed "Mommy and me". EMAIL me if you know more!
My favourite Debbi songs are "Be with you", "Not like you" and
"Some dream come true".
