| It's been a long time coming, but
gorgeous young actress Dee Smart has finally won a
regular spot on Water Rats and may soon take over from
Catherine McClements. Smar, who lives in James Packer's Bondi palazzo with husband Chris Hancock and swimmsuit star Jodie Meares, was overheard bubbling over about her new role at local eatery Hugo's. Dressed in a clingy pink top and long skirt, with her hair in a topknot, Smart was clearly in a mood to celebrate. At one point, she raced up the road, only to return a couple of minutes later with two bottles of wine to take to a frien's place to continue the party. Smart, who has just completed two episodes of Water Rats as undercover cop Alex St Clare, said she would either be consigned to a body bag or would return to fight the the good fight. On Tuesday, producers confimed that she would return as a regular on the new series next month. By the following morning, Smart was already getting in shape for the role, sweating profusely as she jogged along the tough Bronte-to-Bondi run. Smart has had a diverse acting career, appearing as Lucinda Croft in Home and Away for 18 months. She also appeared in the movie Welcome to Woop Woop and recently dazzled as the cheeky Columbia in The New Rocky Horror Show. Given Smart's obvious talent, and her impeccable Channel 9 connections, industry observers are puzzled why it has taken her so long to be confirmed as a regular in the top-rating show. Perhaps network management wanted to ensure they were playing it fair and square. |
