He also had a 18 game hit streak from April 26-May13. Then Came his first injury. He fractured his left thumb sliding into second base. That season he played a total of 106 games in the outfield. His first professional season was over and it was a success!

1993: Shawn was promoted to the Knoxville Smokies in 1993.The Smokies are the Jays AA team in the Southern League. Shawn was on his way to the Big Leagues! He only played in 99 games due to the fact that he broke his right thumb in early June. He still went on to excel by averaging more than one hit per game (102 hits in 99 games). He was also recognized by Baseball America as one of the leagues top ten outfield prospects. But there was still more to come. On September 23 1993 Shawn’s dream came true. He was called up to play for the Toronto Blue Jays. He had made it to the majors.

He played in only three games and had only six at bats and did not manage a hit but he was on his way to becoming a part of the Blue Jays future. He also earned himself a World Series ring for his trouble! Not bad for a kid of 20. He had recognized every little boys dream and he was still little more than a kid himself! He never got to play in the World Series but #56 had arrived! Shawn David Green was a part of the 1993 World Champion Blue Jays!

1994: Shawn’s best pro Season. Once again he was promoted this time to the Syracuse Chiefs. It was a season of many awards and firsts for Green. He started by homering in three straight games on May 30,31 and June 1. He also had a season high 15 game hitting streak from May 24 until June 7. For this he was named the International League player of the week ending June 6. His average for that week was .485 with four home runs and 13 RBI. He was also the Jays’ minor league player of the month for May. He hit .350 with 8 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 16 RBI’s. This brought about his return to “the Big Leagues”, but it was not to last. He hit only .091 but he did manage his first major league hit, a big milestone in any young players career. It was off Mark Clark of the Cleveland Indians on June 13. Sadly for him he was sent back to Syracuse on July 9 but his great season there was to continue!

He was on the International league all star team and played in the mid season classic! He went on to be voted the International Leagues Rookie of the Year. He was also voted the International Leagues Best Batting Prospect, Best Outfield Arm and Most Exciting Player in Baseball America’s Tools of the Trade poll. The final honor was winning the R. Howard Webster Award as the Chief’s MVP. Green was on his way to the majors to stay!
