A workshop designed to enhance musical creativity according to participants' skills, starting with musical conceptual drawings, participants interaction and music performance improvisational ideas. Guillermo Silveira helps students musically and dialectically to pull their own creative strings; from their minds through their instrument and or voice, to a new scored composition.
If participants are instrumental performers only, the final composition may be chamber music, a small suite, or an ensemble of one or two movements. If instrumental and vocal performers are available, this creative workshop could result in a new cantata, or small one act opera, or a little musical theater work. The texture and length of the new piece will be decided by the ensemble, and its style will be analyzed after its creation.
Participation of teachers and parents is also encouraged, as well as rehearsal and final performance of the new work. This creative workshop not only unveils the natural creativity of the students, it also helps to release performance inhibitions, and it also encourages concert performance, giving the participants several tools to enjoy rehearsal time and practice time as well.
"Creative Musical Workshop" is given in a minimum of three sets, or a maximum of twelve sessions.
First hour:
Ensemble introduction, with four 10 minutes improvisation sharing sessions of original musical ideas, including words, available sounds, doodling and drawings. During this hour the texture of the piece will be sketched.
Second hour:
The ensemble decides the form of the new piece. Free forms and classical forms will be considered as well as texture changes in instrumentation, sharing parts, general dynamics and tempo, deciding the final score.
Third hour:
Half an hour supervised practice time, for a no more than ten minutes performance of the new piece. Dress rehearsal and final performance of the piece will be followed by a written survey and a verbal evaluation of the piece and workshop.
First hour:
Ensemble introduction, sharing names, knowledge and original musical ideas, including words and available sounds,
Second hour:
An hour of musical improvisation, doodling and drawings.
Third hour:
During this hour the texture of the piece will be sketched on a wall.
Fourth hour:
The ensemble decides the form of the new piece. Free forms and classical forms will be considered.
Fifth hour:
Texture changes in instrumentation, sharing parts, solos, duos, trios, etc...
Sixth hour:
Performers space distribution, general dynamics and tempo, deciding the final score.
Seventh hour:
Final editing of score and parts.
Eight hour:
An hour of supervised practice time.
Ninth hour:
Partial rehearsals.
Tenth hour:
Dress rehearsal.
Eleventh hour:
Performance of the new piece. Parents, neighbors and school members are invited to the world premier of the students' creation. A small reception for audience feedback and survey is deeply encourage.
Twelfth hour:
Reading of the written survey and a verbal evaluation of new the piece, audience and workshop. Video tape watching.
If the school has video recording facilities, a video of the final performance could be used for the students' final evaluation. A copy of the video is to be given to Guillermo Silveira.
The more time given to this creative workshop, the better the results for the students to enjoy. Their creativity will develop proportionally to the time given them.
Silveira's transportation must be provided by the institution. Materials will be provided by the composer.
