Matter for Bar Association
I saw two letters in yesterdays Chronicle 24/3/03 both from Mr. Sanjeev Datadin, a young Attorney-at Law and both of the letters are published under the caption Lawyer questions Bar Associations motive.

As an outsider and a layman, I and perhaps a lot of other people have been very suspect over what appears to be a partisan attitude towards issues and crimes in the society.

Mr. Datadins letters, as a professional and member of the Guyana Bar Association serves to confirm our views of the partiality of this group and we must question if they can be or form, with their present leadership or attitude, a legitimate part of Civil Society or can be an unbiased or impartial member of the Social Partners. Clearly, there must be quite a serious doubt of their legitimacy.

Every one I think will sympathize with the vulnerable position Mr. Datadin finds himself in while attempting to carry out his professional duties. One must also wonder if the judicial administration will also take note and discuss the matter with the Bar Association as it must affect the administration of Justice.

Tape should be handed over
According to a news report there are security cameras at the Buxton gas station where the murder of the owner Brian Hamilton recently took place and that the tape from the cameras are reportedly in the hands of a senior Attorney-at-Law.

If this is so then this senior attorney should without failure, if he has not already done so, let the Police have it so that the murderers can be apprehended and put before the courts as quickly as possible. No further time should be lost.

For one thing, if this attorney does still have the tape then his life will be in danger unless in some way he is protected by some special dispensation which makes him invulnerable to harm and this will give us pause to consider such a factor.

The public should know if and when the tapes are handed over.
