CENTURY
21 service station, at Nismes, West Bank Demerara, was
robbed by bandits on Monday night, for the third time in
two months.
It
happened about 22:15 h when two men, one of them armed
with a gun, posed as customers wanting bread and
gasoline.
As
the female pump attendant, Barbara Warren, 24, of
Bagotville, was about to attend them, one lashed her in
the head with the weapon and the two made off with
$2,500.
The
watchman, Narine Persaud, 69, of Jetty Squatting
Area, also on West Bank Demerara, stood by helplessly as
the robbers walked away.

Two
previous robberies at Century 21 took place on May 5 and
June 2, this year, too, when gunmen attacked other
employees and stole cash and valuables after smashing a
showcase.
An
electricity generator was stolen as well.
The
owner, Sandra Forde told
the Guyana Chronicle she is “fed up” because her
business seems to be a constant target.

She
said she has to make monthly payments to a commercial
bank and, if it was not for that commitment, she would
close and abandon the enterprise.
Police
are investigating the latest robbery there but had
arrested no one up to late yesterday.
