The launching of Mash 2006 commenced with the traditional costume parade from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport on Main Street, to the Umana Yana, where the launching ceremony took place.

She observed that this year’s Mash celebrations were cancelled due to the January flood and some of the planned activities were held in areas not affected.

Ms. Teixeira said that the Mash 2006 calendar of activities can be described as a journey through Guyana. The Private Sector Brunch has been re-scheduled for December and is aimed at raising funds for calypsonians.

All Regions vied for participation, and those taking part are Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Nine, and Ten.

A new item has been added to the Mash 2006 calendar of activities, and this is a one-night Chutney Competition to be held in Wakenaam.

Speaking about the logo, Minister Teixeira said it was decided to keep the logo and change the theme and the public was given a chance to send in their entries to the theme competition. This was won by Shamar Mittelholzer.
