Bandits
in the city on Friday grabbed more than one
million dollars in assorted currency,
jewellery and other articles from attorney
Goumattie Singh and two other persons who had
just journeyed from the Cheddi Jagan
International Airport (CJIA) while two men
were arrested on separate break and enter
charges.

According
to a statement from Guyana Police Force
spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker, at about 3AM
Friday Singh, 52, and Krishna Persaud of
Prashad Nagar, along with taxi-driver Seenauth
Ramroop, 36, were attacked and robbed by two
men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.


“Investigations
revealed that the victims had arrived at
Prashad Nagar from the CJIA, and as they
exited the vehicle they were held at gunpoint
by the perpetrators who took away a suitcase
with clothing and other articles, a quantity
of jewellery, 3 cell phones, $5,000.00 US,
$200.00 CDN, $125,00 TT and personal documents
and escaped in a waiting motor car,”
Whittaker said.

one has been held so far.
Meanwhile,
the spokesman said that the police have
arrested two men around 3.30 AM Thursday
inside Super Songs CD and Electronics Store at
Cornhill Street, Georgetown.
They
had broken into the store through a door and
are reported to have stolen a quantity of
digital cameras, MP3 players and camcorders to
the value of $1.5 million, Whittaker said.
“The
two men, Deryck Norton, 25 years of Cooper
Street, Albouystown and Osafo Denhert, 18
years of Meadow Brook Gardens, have been
charged with break and enter and larceny. They
appeared in court today before Acting Chief
Magistrate Priya Beharry-Sewnarine where
Deryck Norton was placed on $50,000.00 bail,
while Osafo Denhert was remanded to prison.
