J Gunmen in two cars riddled a Pike Street , Kitty home with bullets shortly after 02: 19 hrs yesterday, wounding a 45-year-old woman in her left thigh and slightly injuring her husband. Police identified the injured couple as Donna Bishop, 45, and James Mc Kenzie, 45, called “Knose”, both of Lot 17 Pike Street, Kitty.
Four of the alleged gunmen have since been detained and a car the suspects allegedly used has been impounded. The motive of the attack is unclear but Kaieteur News understands that the victims told police that one of the gunmen said he was looking for the brother of a notorious bandit who was killed during the 2002-2003 crime wave. According to reports, the couple was in the lower flat of their two-storey home when they heard someone calling at their gate. On looking outside, the husband reportedly saw two men, both of whom he recognised, at the gate. Five other men in a car were also there.
It is alleged that the men said that they were looking for a wanted man's brother who had stolen a rear-view mirror from a car. Kaieteur News understands that the men left but returned shortly after in a blue car. One of the men then began to kick the gate before he and the others opened fire at the building, wounding Donna Bishop and grazing her husband. • Police said that the injured woman was admitted to hospital.
