As controversy surrounds the death of a Good Hope,
East Bank Essequibo woman who died at a city hospital
on Sunday last, police were called in yesterday, as
her husband was found hanging from a rafter in his
house. Thirty-nine year-old Alim Jahoor, a butcher
of Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo was found hanging
from a rafter in his bedroom at around 15:30 hours
yesterday.

According to the man’s mother, Farida Jahoor, she
was at home along with other relatives while her son
was in his bedroom. The woman said that another
relative who went to check on him, after he had
suddenly gone silent, made the discovery. The police
were immediately called in and the man’s body was
removed and taken to the Ezekiel Funeral home.
This publication was told that Jahoor’s wife,
Christene Persaud died on Sunday last at the Woodlands
Hospital.
The man’s relative said that the woman had ingested
a poisonous substance and was rushed to the hospital,
where she later succumbed.
This publication was told also that this was
Persaud’s third suicide attempt. She was described
as a very jealous wife.
“Two times already she drink poison and we carry she
to the hospital and she survive but this time she
drink carbon tablet and he (her husband) carry she to
the hospital but she didn’t mek it,” one of the
man’s relatives told Kaieteur News.
Relatives disclosed that he was grieving his wife’s
death and dismissed any notion that he was in anyway
involved in her demise.
Relatives told this publication that ever since his
wife’s death, Jahoor had been depressed. The couple
celebrated their first wedding anniversary some two
weeks ago. The dead man’s mother said her son was a
very devoted husband and was very loving to his wife
despite a minor mental problem.
On Sunday the man found his wife vomiting in the house
and after inquiring he was told that she had ingested
poison. However relatives could not say if the couple
had issues but acknowledged that they had problems as
any married couple would have.
“He was married before and his wife went away and
left him and ever since he took it on and had a little
nervous problem,” a relative said.
Meanwhile a source close to the investigation said
that it is believed that Mr. Jahoor may have had
something to do with his wife’s death. However a
post mortem examination is expected to be done on
Persaud’s remains sometime later today, which would
put all speculation to rest.
