Mother charged for killing children
A mother suspected of poisoning two of her children has been formally charged and she appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate's Court yesterday after which she was remanded.
According to police reports, sometime between August 30 and 31, Joanna Danhai of Farm, East Bank Essequibo, caused the deaths of Jamal Danhai, seven, and Keisha Danhai, nine.
She will return to court on October 18.
The two children had started crying out for belly pains, Mellis Hinds, their grandmother had explained at her residence at Farm, East Bank Essequibo, where the children and their mother moved less than a year ago.
A neighbour took the children to the hospital but Jamal died on the way; Keisha succumbed early the following morning.
The mother was subsequently taken into custody by the police for questioning.
