Bandits shoot Annandale man

-escape with over $300,000 in cash and jewellery

 

A 42-year-old Annandale man remains in a critical but stable condition at the Georgetown Hospital after he was shot two times by one of three armed bandits who invaded his home around 20:00hrs last night.

Kawall Padarat, of 115 Persaud Street , Annandale , East Coast Demerara, was shot in the neck and hand after he tried to put up a fight with the bandit.

Reports reaching this newspaper stated that the bandits escaped with $150,000, two cellular phones, a DVD player and about $200,000 in jewellery.

At the time of the attack, Padarat who works with a chowmein manufacturing company was lying in a hammock, while his wife Kamille and only son Amir were in their bottom flat apartment.

The injured man's son told Kaieteur News that he was working at his computer when he and his mother, who was lying on her bed, heard Padarat scuffling with one of the gunmen.

This was followed by a scream when Padarat was struck on his forehead with a gun.

Amir Padarat said that as he and his mother were getting up to investigate, two men barged into the apartment and ordered him to lie on the floor.

He said that one of the bandits remained outside with his father.

The other two bandits then demanded cash and jewellery from his father who willingly handed it over to them.

The woman begged the bandits not to harm her husband.

“When dey going away one ah dem seh, ‘we gon gat fuh kill he',” Amir Padarat told this newspaper.

It was at that time one of the men opened fire on his father, shooting him in the neck and hand.

The injured Padarat was rushed to the hospital where he was immediately admitted.

Kaieteur News understands that one of the bullets entered the front of Padarat's neck and exited at the back.

Police subsequently arrived on the scene and began investigations.

No one has so far been arrested.
