More
vehicles for the Police Force
GOVERNMENT
has allocated $29.5M more to purchase vehicles to
boost the transportation component of the Guyana
Police Force (GPF). This was announced by Cabinet
Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon, at his last media
briefing.
One
Rapid Intervention and two
bullet-proofed Mahindra
Rakshak vehicles will be bought
from Mahindra & Mahindra Limited in India,
one of the leading manufacturers
of military multi-utility vehicles.
The
ballistic kit on the Mahindra
Rakshak is based on unique
light-weight materials - composite steel,
ultra-hardened steel and high performance
polyethylene.
The
kit has been configured on the vehicle to ensure
that overall performance parameters such as
mobility, articulation, braking, turning and
steerability remain unaffected and at their
optimum levels.

The
Rapid Intervention vehicle is specially designed
for the Police and Paramilitary Forces to control
mobs in dense urban areas. Due to its unique
design, it can be deployed faster and can easily
be manoeuvred in lanes and in congested areas.
The
brand name utility vehicles have come to signify
high quality, ruggedness, durability, reliability,
ease-of-maintenance and operational economy for
its user groups.
Last
year, two ‘Striker’ vehicles were also
purchased from India.
