Guyanese couple held in Suriname for boutique manager's murder
Detectives in Suriname have detained a Guyanese couple who allegedly murdered boutique manager Mark Gill last July and stole over a million dollars in jewellery from his home.
Kaieteur News has learnt that Suriname police, who have been on the look-out for the suspects, nabbed the couple in the Dutch-speaking territory a few days ago.
Detectives from the Guyana Police Force were notified of the arrest and brought the suspects brought back to Guyana yesterday. They are both likely to be charged.
Mark Gill, 31, the manager of Big Gill Fashions, was found hacked to death in his bedroom on July 8. There was no sign of forced entry to the home but relatives said that a large quantity of jewellery had been stolen.
Police subsequently received information that a West Coast Demerara man, later identified as the prime suspect, had stayed overnight at Gill's home.
During their investigations, detectives picked up a taxi driver who had allegedly taken the suspect away from the scene of the murder.
However the alleged killer and his girlfriend reportedly fled to Suriname before they could be caught.
