Two masked men with guns on Friday evening robbed a disabled man and his wife of a quantity of money and jewellery at Number 11 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to the police, Rohan Doodnauth, 47, was in his wheelchair on the bottom flat of his home around 18:30 hrs (6.30 pm) when two men with guns stuck him up and demanded money and gold.

The men discharged two rounds in the air and took away a pouch containing $15,000 from the man, along with a gold ring valued $10,000. They then lifted Doodnauth out of his wheelchair and took him to the top flat of his house.

Doodnauth's wife Palmattie, who was out, returned home while the men were ransacking the building. They grabbed her and took away a gold band valued $30,000, two diamond rings valued $25,000 and other jewellery totalling $70,000. After robbing Doodnauth and his wife, the men reportedly told them that they had been paid to do so and then fled the scene.

The Doodnauths reported the matter to the police and investigations are continuing.
