Port Mourant couple robbed of cash, jewellery

Two armed men early yesterday morning held up and robbed a man and his wife of a large sum of money and jewellery at Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to the police, Sultan and his wife Bibi Mohamed were preparing to go and sell at the Port Mourant market when the men stuck them up.

The men stuck up the husband around 2.30 am, while he was in the yard. One of them dealt him a lash to his head with a gun and demanded money and jewellery.

They then proceeded into the home and held up his wife. She too was hit with a gun.

The robbers grabbed US$700, $64,000 and $200,000 worth in jewellery and made good their escape.

Investigations are continuing.
