SACKED
Supreme Court Marshals who were sacked by Registrar
Sita Ramlal and got a High Court judge to order
that they be reinstated with pay, are clamouring for court
action against the Registrar.
During
a picketing exercise outside the Guyana Court of Appeal on
June 17, the marshals contended that although the Court did
not grant Ramlal a stay of execution, they had already spent
14 months without pay.
They
carried slogans, which read, “Is
Sita above the law?” “State
lawyers using delaying tactics”, “Let
justice prevail”, “Is
the law only for the poor?” ”We
have a family too”, and “Sita appealed but
was denied stay of execution”.
Later
Chancellor of the Judiciary, Miss Desiree Bernard, noted that
the Court was governed by rules and declared that the delay in
hearing the appeal was due to the fact that the records of the
appeal have just been received.
According
to her, notices are in the process of being sent out to those
concerned.
