stabbed businessman during fight

The 25-year-old man, who was extradited from
Suriname in connection with the murder of boutique
manager Mark
Gill, has reportedly admitted to
killing the businessman.
But sources say that the suspect, who is from
Best Village , West Coast Demerara, is alleging
that he acted in self defence.
Kaieteur
News understands that the West
Demerara resident claimed that he and Mark Gill
had an argument and that the businessman had
pushed him down.
According to sources, the suspect claimed that
he retaliated by chopping Gill.
He is said to have also admitted to making off
with jewellery from the murdered businessman's
house.
According to reports, the man's 22-year-old
girlfriend has told detectives that he confided in
her that he had killed Gill.
The couple subsequently fled to Suriname ,
where they were arrested last week. They were
extradited to Guyana on Saturday.
Charges are likely this week.
Mark Gill, 31, the manager of Big Gill
Fashions, was found dead in his bedroom on July 8,
last.
He had at least five stab wounds on his body,
and a gaping wound to the neck.
There was no sign of forced entry to the home
but relatives said that more than $1 million worth
of jewellery was missing.
Police subsequently received information that a
West Coast Demerara man had stayed at Gill's home
on the night that the boutique manager was slain.
