Samsara
is a group of architects, planners, students of architecture, other
professionals and friends with a concern for preserving and creating an
awareness towards Himalayan built heritage, arts, culture and allied
crafts. Formed in 1997, as a small group of individuals, the group today
encompasses a wider range of interested folk.
In
1997, members of Samsara documented wood art along the Himalayan regions
of the Pithoragarh district, India. Since then Samsara has been involved
in similar documentations in Ladakh (India) and Mustang (Nepal).
Samsara
strives to create an awareness towards the forgotten monuments lying
neglected along the regions and attempts to relay the stories of their
glorious past and the vicissitudes of times they have withstood. Samsara
is an independent body and is in no way affiliated to any other agencies
or bodies. Till date all work done by the group has been self financed by
the members.
