gkar

" In order to serve our people, here and at home, one must be both priest and warrior in equal measure. "

name: G'Kar

is: Narn; part warrior, part priest; (too cool for words. it's true!-p)

wants: to free his people from the Centauri

birthday: sometime before the dawn of the third age of mankind, yeah, that's it...

hometown: he was born on Narn and grew up here and there in refugee camps

family: no living family mentioned; his father's hanging by the Centauri had a huge impact on him...

religion: follower of G'Quan

Strong point: eloquence; singing :)

weak point: initially, he tended to be a bit too passionate...

role: G'Kar is many things. He is profound and passionate, a fighter for his people and their voice of reason. He is intensely involved in politics, initially playing at whatever angle he can to help his people; but at the same time, he is a deeply spiritual individual. On Babylon 5, he becomes something of a prophet as he foresees the Shadows' return from the beginning. The visionary. The writer. Throughout the course of the series, he evolves from someone who blindly and intensely hates the Centauri (his relationship with Londo forms one of B5's central themes) to a very noble individual who, although he can never fully forgive, has come full circle. From mostly warrior to mostly priest. His passion never leaves, up to the very end.

most telling quote:"No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power governments and tyrants and armies can not stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once; we will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years,we will be free."

what other people think of him:

"G'Kar, I know we have had our problems in the past, but I can't imagine going into the council chambers and not seeing you there...straight, tall, ready to argue with anyone about anything." - Sheridan

"G'kar, have I ever told you that you are one of the finest writers that I have every met? And that it has been an honor to work beside you on the alliance?"- Delenn

"You are mad! You know that?!"- Londo

shilpa's comments: G'Kar's appeal is certainly not lost on me. He's a character with a tragic history (and as I noted, I have an affinity for tragic characters), and his evolution from an angry being who wants to avenge the wrongs against his people to someone of a greater understanding of how all sensient beings are tied together is wonderful to see. I also really enjoy G'Kar's relationship with Londo. It was so bizarre watching their interaction in "Rising Star" and the fifth season--bantering aimiably, so different from the first season when they were at each others' throats nonstop.

priya's comments: are yet to come, but if you note her comment above, you will see that she thinks highly of him.
