role: G'Kar is many things. He is profound and passionate, a fighter for his people and their voice of reason. He is intensely involved in politics, initially playing at whatever angle he can to help his people; but at the same time, he is a deeply spiritual individual. On Babylon 5, he becomes something of a prophet as he foresees the Shadows' return from the beginning. The visionary. The writer. Throughout the course of the series, he evolves from someone who blindly and intensely hates the Centauri (his relationship with Londo forms one of B5's central themes) to a very noble individual who, although he can never fully forgive, has come full circle. From mostly warrior to mostly priest. His passion never leaves, up to the very end.

shilpa's comments: G'Kar's appeal is certainly not lost on me. He's a character with a tragic history (and as I noted, I have an affinity for tragic characters), and his evolution from an angry being who wants to avenge the wrongs against his people to someone of a greater understanding of how all sensient beings are tied together is wonderful to see. I also really enjoy G'Kar's relationship with Londo. It was so bizarre watching their interaction in "Rising Star" and the fifth season--bantering aimiably, so different from the first season when they were at each others' throats nonstop.
